| Help with disconnecting Westell Model 327W I have a westell model 327w and it works great. It's always fast and never slow. I have 1 desktop, 2 laptops, and an xbox 360(ethernet)connected to the router. It works great and all but sometimes my router just randomly disconnects. I never thought of it much at first but then now its really becoming a nuisance. Whenever the "DSL" light starts blinking, my internet will disconnect for the desktop, 2 laptops and the xbox. I'm not that good with computers so I came here to ask. Is there a way to make it stop disconnecting or is that normal for all westell model 327w? Thanks in advance for those who can help. | |

Since I believe the Westell 327w supports ADSL2+ (correct me if I'm wrong), it wouldn't hurt to stop over into the Verizon Direct forum here to see if you can get moved onto an ADSL2+ line card to get you more speed and margin over your line. Would that cost more than the plan I'm at right now?

Your attenuation is not that high that you're too far from the CO to have to downgrade your speed or try to change your DSL type--all useless BS. Just clean up the noise on your line and your margin will improve. Your DSL connection should support the full 3M rate without any disconnects if the line is clean.
Check for noise on the phone/voice line... call your phone repair--not DSL--to have them fix any noise presence on the line first. Check all devices connected to your phone line to see if any of them are defective and possibly causing the noise and disconnects. Check the DSL filters for these devices too as they can fail over time. Lastly, check your 327W--notorious for failures, poor performance and inconsistent reliability--for overheating and damage from ESD and/or spikes/surges. This modem/router has been known to fail over time and causes disconnects. Try testing with another DSL modem if possible--get a cheap one off eBay or even free ones off Craigslist.

People just like to do things the hard way... changing firmware without debugging your situation first is not going to solve your disconnects any time soon. You might have just added more trouble. Anyway, have you taken any of suggestions listed above?

People just like to do things the hard way... You mean like not taking Smitty's suggestion as opposed to your original one? An Attenuation of 49db is right about where we've seen troubles start for 3mb connections not on ADSL2+. Yes cleaning up the line can help make the difference between one at that level holding sync and one not, but it shouldn't expected that every connection should work under those conditions.
If you can live the the 1.5, downgrade to it, and see if you can flash the older firmware back in. The newest one actually cause more disconnects.

In debugging any technical problem, there's a systematic approach usually starting with the simplest and most likely causes first then one moves down the list of possible causes.

|
| Smith6612 Premium join:2008-02-01 united state | Re: Help with disconnecting Westell Model 327W Nope. FiOS is simply a fiber optic cable that comes into your home, and is then moved over Coax/Ethernet. You shouldn't have any issues with it unless the line gets damaged some how. | |

| dsl blinking is means no connection. not slow connection dsl light would be solid if was slow. check physical connection then call tech support, you will need a intermittant sync ticket put in. you will need to talk to a level 3 tech for this. intermittant is key because just no sync will close the issue if a good test happens. good luck | |
