 This years list |
LOL! Not surprised at all, in fact it has been known for years that the Leafs and Rangers are two of the most valuable franchises in the NHL.
The Leafs have only taken over first place resently, the Rangers where number one back in 04 team was valued at 282 mil while the Leafs where valued at 280 mil, the Flyers bring up third with 264 mil. |

| reply to vue666 What worries me more is the fact that assuming that the numbers are accurate (always a tricky thing, since some of these numbers are at best "educated guesses") is the fact that only 18 out of the 30 teams league wide had any operating profit to speak of (and that outside the top ten that operating profit was peanuts )

| reply to vue666 Ah a Quebec City team... would make Les Habs choke on their poutine (I still remember the one playoff series the old Nords had against the Habs... vicious is too kind a description of that )

@teksavvy.com | reply to vue666 Habs Nordics was the most brutal rivalry in any pro sports, they would kill each others I don't think there's any rivalry like that in North America's pro sports. |

| reply to BryceS said by BryceS :Hamilton Blackberries over any Winnipeg/Quebec City team. Yeah, Hamilton should be next on the list, but that doesn't also mean that Winnipeg and Quebec City shouldn't have teams again, too.
Quebec City is a little weird though. The area is pretty much unilingual French, all the game announcements were in French, etc. It was a little weird in the NHL, and a lot of players refused to go anywhere near the Nords. I would assume the same would happen if they got a team again. -- I swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen. |

Just so you know, "Quebec City is Canada's largest market without an NHL team." |

I would think it would be more about players who don't speak French and their families who don't speak French and don't want to be schooled in French. It's not as much of a problem in Montreal which is much more bilingual than Quebec City is. I know that there is English available for tourists, but there isn't much of a base of actual residents who speak English as a primary language, or schooling available in English for the children of the players.
While Quebec City is the largest single city in Canada without a franchise, Southern Ontario (Hamilton, London, K-W, Guelph, Burlington, Oakville, etc) is a much bigger population base to support a team. There isn't much within a 90 minute drive from Quebec City other than Trois-Rivières and that's closer to Montreal than Quebec City. -- Pro amicis mortui amicis vivimus (We live in the hearts of friends for whom we died) - inscription on the memorial in Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, The Netherlands Join Team Helix

| reply to CigaR said by CigaR :Just so you know, "Quebec City is Canada's largest market without an NHL team." Bullshit. It's not Quebec City. It's Hamilton, by far.
Quebec City may have more people in the CMA, but Hamilton has a much, much, MUCH (did I say much?) larger market. In addition to the 620,000 people in the Hamilton CMA, you've got just under half a million in Niagara, not to mention the GTA, Brant County, Haldimand County, Norfolk County, the Golden Triangle, etc.
Simply put, there's more people within a two hour driving distance of Hamilton than there is in the entire province of Quebec. They're the larger market and should get a team before any other Canadian city. End of story. -- I swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen. |

Figures that you'd mention everything except the Niagara Region, haha. We're right next door, and there's a half a million of us always being ignored by the likes of you people, hahaha. -- I swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen. |
