jaydro join:2004-08-05 Durham, NC | Verizon Yahoo! features going away Can't believe I'm the first to post here about it, but I just got an e-mail telling me that certain features of my Verizon Yahoo! account are being changed or eliminated. (»help.yahoo.com/l/us/verizon/misc···-02.html) Basically, I will now be seeing more ads in my Yahoo! mail (which I don't use much), no more Yahoo! Online Protection (which I used only on a laptop that connects to work, which requires that I use their unalterable version of McAfee or my own Norton, which I used with VYOP), no more LaunchCast Plus (which I used at one time), and no more free Flickr Pro account (which has me angsting--free Flickr Pro is great, but I would probably be unhappy with it if I was actually paying for it). |

| reply to jaydro I got the e-mail as well. First of all those ads showing up on my e-mail won't bother me, as I won't be able to see or load them up in the first place. About the Security center leaving as well, should they completely get a rid of that, there are other alternatives out there. I use them since I'm not a big fan of Norton. |
|
 | reply to jaydro I could care less about all that crap. If they'd hook up the last mile so I could get FIOS at my new house (like I had at my old house 2 miles away) I'd drop comcast and switch back to FIOS in a heartbeat. |

 | reply to jaydro Another reason Verizon is becoming less favorable. After my experience in a previous location, I wouldn't go back to them in the new place if they became available here. |

1 edit | A combination of Avast! Anti-virus free edition, Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware works the best for me security wise. For firewall, use Windows firewall as a basic which does the job, or there are software such as comodo (sp?) and ZoneAlarm that will work. |

 | reply to jaydro Anyone know if the price is going down? Cause when I signed up Yahoo version cost more. I didn't mind till now since they removing flickr pro and adding ads to yahoo mail. I don't really care about any the other stuff. |
|
 | I just started getting ads incorporated with my email page. SHEESH!! I get enough trash everywhere else!! Tech support's useless...they don't even know how to tell you how to change the portal on your service....has to go through 20 questions and understanding their accent is bad enough!! AND I PAY FOR THIS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! |
|
 | reply to jaydro All is fine with me. I may still keep Verizon with Yahoo but I hear they may also take away the free launchcast radio. If they do that, then I will most likely switch my portal to something else. |

No one paid extra for the Yahoo or MSN portals on Verizon DSL. |
|
 | reply to jaydro thanks for al lteh replys on the virus protection |
|
 | That is not true when I signed up for Verizon DSL I don't remember the exact prices but it was like a couple extra dollars to get Yahoo. |
|
 | reply to jaydro I have had verizon fios since since they came out with it. No problems with it. It's faster than anything else out there. Use another E- mail and browser such as Thunderbird and Fire Fox instead of MSN or Yahoo. I got rid of my PC and got a Mac so I no Longer need a anti virus or fire wall. |

Those of us that have been with Verizon for a long time got yahoo services for free when we signed up. Free premium radio, premium video, ect. |

 | reply to jaydro Those ads were driving me nuts, it is one thing if they were just static but mine were moving "commercials" I just changed my settings to forward everything via my MSN email = no more ads. |

 | reply to jaydro A place to vent! yeah! I've had verizon for many years. The free Yahoo LaunchCast Plus (that I listen to ALL day at work) kept me loyal to Verizon. The new ads are overdone. What a slap in a face to paying customers. A few along the left side...okay, but animated on the side and top are just too much. I went back to Yahoo Mail Classic and it's not as bad. Still annoying! I renewed for a year a few months ago. *sigh* For Anti-Virus - I use Avira that I downloaded for free at downloads.com. It's the best I've tried. Thanks for the idea to forward the emails to another account. That is a great idea!! |
