| Re: Upgrade from 768kbps/128kbps to 1Mbps/386kbps? Like me, the couple other people I've seen post on this deal received a postcard explaining the free upgrade and that it would happen within a couple of weeks. I think it was about 10 days for me. If you don't get the postcard offering the upgrade, they may not being doing the bulk upgrade in your area(yet). I doubt they want to get into doing 1000s of single user upgrades by request. At least thats my guess. FYI, its 1.5Mbps upgrade, not 1Mbps, and its actually 3Mbps if you're close enough.

| Hello bfollett,
We are now near the end of January '09 and had I not read the article here, I would not have known about the free upgrade.
I am in New York City and never received a postcard. After reading the information here yesterday, I chatted with Verizon last night and got the upgrade.
Also, I was told by the tech that it is not 1.5M, it is 1M. Looking closely at the offer on the Verizon's website, they are offering a 1M plan for 2 years at $17.99. The 1M is shown quite small. Nowhere is the 768k offered any longer. However, still they have not advertised a free upgrade.
I hope there is not anyone waiting for Verizon to send them a postcard. If you want the upgrade you should call/chat/email them as soon as possible!
For everyone that received a free upgrade of more than 1M, hurray for you!

| Hi I hope they don't auto upgrade everyone to this new entry level plan. I have a friend who can barely get 768/128 because they are borderline for service. an upgrade would probably screw up there service where they may not even be able to stay connected for a good period of time. | |

| I don't think this can be any good for them. They can't even sync at 890/160 which is correct values for 768/128. they usually sync at 512/160 although sometimes as high as 800/160 and has occasional sync loss but not for very long time only a few minutes here and there then it is back up. | |

| Re: Upgrade from 768kbps/128kbps to 1Mbps/386kbps? Yay just got the upgrade. Called in yesterday, was told the speed'd be upgraded today..lo and behold, here it is:
Stats: Transceiver Revision: 4.2.0.11 Vendor ID Code: 4 Line Mode: ADSL2+ Mode Data Path: Fast Transceiver Information Down Stream Up Stream Path DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 1180 447 Margin (dB) 31.0 25.0 Line Attenuation (dB) 23.0 11.5 Transmit Power (dBm) 15.4 11.9
So far, so good... the extra upload in particular is a godsend for me... and webpages do seem to load slightly snappier.
NOTE: They don't say this, but I was told that the upgrade extends/resets your contract. Per se, I got the 1 yr contract in June, now, I must maintain service till next November. Fine for me, because I don't plan on cancelling my DSL anytime soon, as TWC sucks hard c**k in my area. But if your experience with Verizon has been iffy, it's definitely something to consider.

4 edits | Re: Upgrade from 768kbps/128kbps to 1Mbps/386kbps? That's not unusual. Verizon is so clueless. You can load up their home page and it clearly says they have a starter plan at 1Mbit/384 for $9.99 for first 6 months, then $19.99 a month thereafter. They list the 3/768 tier for $19.99 for first 6 months, then $29.99 for months 7-12. That's pretty bad when their customers know what's going on more than their own employees. I had to wait for nearly 6 months after they rolled out the new 7.1 Mbit tier before I could successfully order it from the CSR's, and even then they totally screwed up my upgrade, and it took nearly six weeks to get that mess cleared up. I asked the CSR in India to load up their home page to check out the speed packages available, and he said I don't have internet access here sir, now that makes alot of damn sense! That company has to be one of the poorest managed communications companies around. The left hand dosen't know what the right is doing

| They just too far. I had to get support to help them get the service working better because it was really bad at one point. They would be without sync for half or more than half the time. They came and service improved quite a bit. There are still problems but at least it mostly works. hey told my friend that they are borderline. Yet even from the getgo they told them they were borderline but he service worked well for them over a year syncing at 890/160 and then the problems started. I hope if they do plan on auto-upgrading everyone that this won't cause any problems for them. | |

| Called this morning for the speed upgrade and within 15minutes of the call Verizon DSL upgraded the speed. As my old contract had expired last month I renewed for one year and am saving a couple of bucks a month.

Well we were on a lifetime contract paying 19.99 for 768k, which ended last month, now our bill is 21.99. When I read about the 1M upgrade, I called. The second Indian rep told me it would cost 25.99 to upgrade to 1M (this being under a new contract). And we do have the phone service.
My brother, who's on dial-up, may look into the 1M deal now.

| Re: Upgrade from 768kbps/128kbps to 1Mbps/386kbps? The speed fluctuations are most likely caused by a Juniper combined with an RWIN that is too high. Lowering the RWIN should do the trick. All that's needed to verify is a Line Quality Test and a Tweak Test. Any changes can be made with DrTcp. All of that can be found in the Tools section. | |

1 edit | I thought I would have trouble going to the 1792 connections because my line attenuation is always around 63, which means I'm way out in the fringe area too. But my modem does sync at the full 1792/448. The only downside is that my downstream noise margin does vary wildly. I've even seen it drop down to -1.5 I didn't even know the noise margins could go to a negative number. Anyway, looking at my modem logs, I look to be loosing my connection about once a day, but it always resyncs back to the 1792, and so far I haven't been online when its had to reconnected. Even if I was, its only about a 10 second process, so I'll live with that for the greatly improved speed.

| Here's my experience...
After speaking with three representatives who among other things said that no such speed existed, you have to order Fios in order have higher speed (Fios is not in this area yet) and the third said she had no idea what to do, finally with the fourth representative, I was able to upgrade the speed level to 1.0 mbps down/384 kbps up with no change in price ($17.99) and no requirement to enter into a term agreement.
I ordered the upgrade on 11/05/08 and the upgrade was completed today, 11/06/08.
Ran two speed tests today, and both came back at 1005 kbps up and 385 kbps down.
The service appears to be working just fine at the new increased speed levels.

| We recently noticed that our DSL modem is reporting 2x the speed it used to, without us requesting or being notified of any change.
We pay the 3Mbit rate but are kind of far out on the loop and from the beginning (a couple of years ago) were only getting a connection rate around 800 Kbit. But recently I had to restart the modem, and I noticed it came back up with about 1600 Kbit. Net access is noticeably faster, too.

1 edit | Re: Upgrade from 768kbps/128kbps to 1Mbps/386kbps? 1.5M is still a lower provisioning option of the 3M plan. The 768K is morphing into 1M/384. Try not to make it more confusing than it already is. No indication where the 5M/768 fits in, unless that is to be a lower provisioning option of the 7M plan. Price for the 5M thing has been hard to come by.
The 768K to 1M upgrade is supposed to be automatic, which is unheard of with Verizon, as it comes online in each CO.

After I posted that "melded" comment, I realized that the 1.5/384 disappeared, as a tier, quite a while ago and is now a sub-tier of 3/768. Your point is well taken.
I have a relative who lives in Woodbury, NJ who is on the 768/128 plan and we were both interested in seeing if the upgrade would be automatic or if he had to call to get it. -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons
