An executive customer service rep contacted me today. The modem insurance should be gone from my bill forever now and not come back again. The only thing they could do about this dsl upgrades is a 1mbps plan for $19.99 which I accepted. The person I spoke with was not from India and actually knew what they were doing.

Verizon wants to screw with me more now. Last month they ninjaed modem insurance onto my bill and I went though 2 people to get it removed now its back again. I just reported them to the PA public Utility commission today over it. This company is really starting too get on my nerves they won't give me any form of upgrade and now they want more money for their precious modem insurance I cancelled twice.

Consider posting to the Verizon Direct forum. It is staffed by Verizon employees. They can do line tests, generate work orders, etc.

I just went through the same issues. I pay for 3/768, and was getting 600-1500/600.

After some back and forths, I'm getting 1500-2800/600.
Now Vz is send a new modem so I can try the 7.1/768 service.

Not perfect, but a lot better.

Basically to grab the speeds. If Verizon can't give you reliable service in the first place, there's some troubleshooting that needs to be done first.

Billing is not in India. They make everyone deal with billing for upgrades.

We are "trying out" the 1MB "upgrade" from 768k. It costs less, because of the 2 year comittment, but Verizon can't seem to deliver much better than 465K-525K reliably, so what's the point?

Like I said I am under agreement till July for 768k $18. I have local phone service and DSL no standalone product. The 1mbps service is fully available to me it seems if I PAY full price. Under my account page on verizon account it says.

Current Plan: Verizon High Speed Internet One Year Commitment - Expires 07/25/2009You might be eligible for an upgrade. Please click here to check
Click the offer link and we get
We're Sorry!

We're sorry. We are unable to complete your request at this time. Please call our Billing Department at 1-800-567-6789 for assistance.

This really has me pissed off. Sweet talk someone in India and get more speed for the same price.... This kind of crap must be borderline illegal. The sooner I am away from them the better I don't like playing price shell games with a utility company.

I tried posting this reply once but the forums seem to be bugged.
I have local phone service and the dsl 768k for $17.99 no dry loop. My account page also has the click if you are eligible for upgrade link also which does not work.

I really makes me upset seeing how this company is doing this. Sweet talk the right person from India and get double the speed for the same price. This shady kind of crap seems borderline illegal to me. This seems like downright favoritism of certain customers. What verizon I am not good enough to get the speed upgrade? I know I am not the only one feeling this way. And yes the 1mbps is an option if I pay more....

Hmm, then if I read that right, congrats on the upgrade and hope you are enjoying the new speeds.

@Ekard: Are you running a Dry Loop line or one running month to month? The last I checked, $19.99 was only offered to those who had a contract with Verizon for the service. Dry loop should have been $19.99, but I'm wondering if that may be for new customers though. If you are in fact running a dry-loop line, that would explain why Verizon is refusing to lower the cost.

Smith6612: Sorry I missed your reply on Feb 11 to my post. I check this forum daily.

The agent *was* able to change my speed to the updated one. I don't recall checking the speed until the next day, but at that time it was in effect.

I tried this today and they flat out refused and said it would be $21.99 and bounced me around between 3-4 departments. I even got to the point I mentioned this very thread and even the prices posted on their very own website the 1mbps plan for $19.99. I am paying $18 for 768kbps. I am locked into it until July and they won't budge I was tempted to pay the $80 fee and cancel but I just filed a complaint with the Attorney General for my state of PA. I've seen the commercials on tv for the 1mbps plan for $17.99 and finding this thread answered my curiosity about was going on... I asked in my complaint for verizon to upgrade me or terminate my ALL my services without a fee.

Was that agent able to change your speed to the updated one for you? Just wondering as you never mentioned that. Also, Verizon's website is known for it's glitches. They just recently fixed the network status page after being broken for months.

I'd like to report my experience with the upgrade. I previously had the 768/128 package for $19.99 per month with a one year contract (expiring in July). Today I phoned billing to request the free upgrade to 1000/384. I spoke with CSR "Singh". He was not aware of a free upgrade, so he briefly paused to check in to it. He offered to renew my one-year contract today (instead of July) with the upgraded speed, for the same price. I would have preferred to get the upgrade without having to prematurely renew my contract, but I accepted.

Before phoning billing, I checked if I could apply for the upgrade online. The "check your account" page at the Verizon.net web site instructed me to "click here" to see if I'm eligible for an upgrade. When I click, it says it is unable to retrive my account info, and I should phone billing. I've tried this several times per month since last November when this thread started.

Jodokast typo'd the link for the transceiver stats. They're found at »192.168.1.1/transtat.htm . The proper sync rate for the line under ADSL/G.DMT mode is 1184/448 which is what I have under G.DMT, and my margins sit right now at 23dB. ADSL2 and ADSL2+, expect it to be a little lower, such as 1181/447.

Not sure of the exact sync rate, but it should be llxx/448.

*EDIT* Fixed the link as noted below.

I had 768 for about 3 years now @ $22 a month. I called and told CSR that I heard that they were giving free upgrades to 1M. She sounded confused about the whole thing. She put me on hold and came back a minute later and told me she can give me 1m for $19.99. She told me it would switch over by 12 midnight. I haven't noticed any difference in speed. Is there anyway to tell from the modem? I have a Westell 327W

Yeah. But hey you can't complain really. However this one place I go to on a weekly basis, they have Verizon Business class and when Verizon got rid of the 768kbps plan, despite their old phone line which doesn't like DSL too much, and their long line length (Attenuation is 68.5dB), their line was boosted from 768kbps/128kbps to 1.5Mbps/384kbps for free, and somehow it is holding sync for days before static gets on the line and craps the DSL out.
