| reply to Ka0z Re: Upgrade from 768kbps/128kbps to 1Mbps/386kbps?
I was paying 19.99 for 768k (1 year contract), when I called in for the upgrade I was told it would be 21.99 but she noted in my file that I wanted 19.99. Later I check the MyAccount page and it says I'm on a month to month plan, which might be why she said 21.99? I did tell her I was getting a discount for agreeing to a 1 year contract. Guess I'll wait for my next bill and see what happened. |

| reply to Smith6612 OK. I called billing today and they stated that the 1Mbps/384kbps speed wasn't available to me yet. There's only the plan I'm on right now, and then a 3Mbps/1.5Mbps plan (1.5Mbps? Thought it was 768kbps). Oh well. I'll give it a shot in another week or so to see how it works out. If not, if I wait a bit past January, my DSL's contract will be renewed then so I might get the bump then. |

@verizon.net | reply to Smith6612 For some reason I thought I HAD a 1 year contract already and I'm paying $24.99 for a 1M dry loop. I know its only $5, but still, why should I pay any more than anyone else? |

| Well, if you go to:
»www22.verizon.com/content/consum···lans.htm
It clearly says: "Internet without Verizon phone service" - "$19.99/month First month FREE" |

@verizon.net | Like the day before that deal. I'm going to call and whine about it untill I get it for $5 less. |

| I had three people tell me they couldn't upgrade my 768k ($21.99/month) unless I paid $26.99/month. Then I got transferred to the "Solutions Bureau" or some such thing where I was told they would give me 3.0Mbps service for $26.99/month minutes $15/month for a year, so apparently I'm now getting 3.0Mbps for $11.99 on dry loop starting tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it. I made her repeat herself three times to be sure (and she was) but I'll believe it when I see it. |

I was on a $19.99 786K dry loop and called to upgrade -- 4 indians later I was transfered to a sales rep who spoke english BUT told me I had to pay $24.99 for the 1M service because I have no home phone service -- has anyone gotten the 1M for $19 with no home phone service? Well we were on a lifetime contract paying 19.99 for 768k, which ended last month, now our bill is 21.99. When I read about the 1M upgrade, I called. The second Indian rep told me it would cost 25.99 to upgrade to 1M (this being under a new contract). And we do have the phone service.
My brother, who's on dial-up, may look into the 1M deal now. |

Yep, the 3.0Mbps came online this morning around 2ish according to the logs, and verizon.net billing shows a month-to-month plan as someone else indicated. We'll see what they charge me... $11.99 seems impossible. |

| reply to Ka0z We recently noticed that our DSL modem is reporting 2x the speed it used to, without us requesting or being notified of any change.
We pay the 3Mbit rate but are kind of far out on the loop and from the beginning (a couple of years ago) were only getting a connection rate around 800 Kbit. But recently I had to restart the modem, and I noticed it came back up with about 1600 Kbit. Net access is noticeably faster, too.

I'm so glad that once again the average consumer is much more cognizant of Verizon's plans than Verizon:
This e-mail confirms your recent request... to change your Verizon High Speed Internet service on your line ending in XXXX. Our records now indicate your package is Retention - Dry Loop 3M Annual Plan $ 15 Discount $ 26.99/$ 41.99* and your speed is 3.0M/768K. I'll keep it - it's still a fine deal. It just amuses me that she so completely misunderstood the plan. |

2 edits | reply to dataice Heh don't mention it. I just uploaded a 3MB file, it took 3 1/2 minutes to fully upload at 17KB/s and I also downloaded a Steam game. That took about 6 hours to finish at full speed of 92.5KB/s sustained and it was a demo of Left 4 Dead |

| Yay just got the upgrade. Called in yesterday, was told the speed'd be upgraded today..lo and behold, here it is:
Stats: Transceiver Revision: 4.2.0.11 Vendor ID Code: 4 Line Mode: ADSL2+ Mode Data Path: Fast Transceiver Information Down Stream Up Stream Path DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 1180 447 Margin (dB) 31.0 25.0 Line Attenuation (dB) 23.0 11.5 Transmit Power (dBm) 15.4 11.9
So far, so good... the extra upload in particular is a godsend for me... and webpages do seem to load slightly snappier.
NOTE: They don't say this, but I was told that the upgrade extends/resets your contract. Per se, I got the 1 yr contract in June, now, I must maintain service till next November. Fine for me, because I don't plan on cancelling my DSL anytime soon, as TWC sucks hard c**k in my area. But if your experience with Verizon has been iffy, it's definitely something to consider.
Cheers, a333 |

| reply to Smith6612 It's weird that different areas are being offered different speed upgrades. I swear I read that someone got a free upgrade to 3Mbps. I wonder if I would have if I wasn't so darn far from the CO. Still I'll gladly take the 1.5Mbps they gave me.
