1 edit | Now that's devotion, waiting 4 1/2 hours for a game demo. Did you contact Verizon yet to see if you qualify for the upgrade to 1Mbit? From what I have been following online, they won't give it to you automatically. People are having to contact them and request it. Do you know your distance from your nearest central office? |

4 edits | I'm 2 miles from the RT (fiber fed), I am close enough to get 3Mbps service with FastPath. I called in once before and was told that there was no 1Mbps/384kbps package, and that there was only a 3Mbps/1.5Mbps package for 19.99 a month. I'll wait until the end of the month to see if I get upgraded. If not, I'll call in and ask about it again. I'm also wondering, does the Verizon Direct forum here handle speed upgrades at all? I'm wondering if I can get my speed turned up by them.
But oh yeah, I have a lot of devotion and patience. Everything from waiting 2 days for uploads to finish, to an entire day waiting for Steam games to download, and waiting 2 hours for a half hour HD video to load up. I've had some game demos take 7 hours before they fully finish downloading at a sustained rate of 92.3KB/s before. |

4 edits | That's not unusual. Verizon is so clueless. You can load up their home page and it clearly says they have a starter plan at 1Mbit/384 for $9.99 for first 6 months, then $19.99 a month thereafter. They list the 3/768 tier for $19.99 for first 6 months, then $29.99 for months 7-12. That's pretty bad when their customers know what's going on more than their own employees. I had to wait for nearly 6 months after they rolled out the new 7.1 Mbit tier before I could successfully order it from the CSR's, and even then they totally screwed up my upgrade, and it took nearly six weeks to get that mess cleared up. I asked the CSR in India to load up their home page to check out the speed packages available, and he said I don't have internet access here sir, now that makes alot of damn sense! That company has to be one of the poorest managed communications companies around. The left hand dosen't know what the right is doing |

4 edits | reply to Smith6612 From what I have been able to research online, you can get up to 3 Mbits if you are within 12,000 feet from the nearest central office or RT. Since you claim to be 2 miles away (give or take), you are definitely within that range to get the full 3 megs. |

The direct forum can not do speed changes. Billing or Sales, however you see it, are the only ones that can upgrade your speeds. |

2 edits | reply to Smith6612 Smith6612, If I were you I would contact Verizon as soon as you get the chance. The sooner you contact them, the quicker you will be up and running with a faster tier, possibly even the 3 Mbit tier. I don't understand why you didn't contact them sooner about going up to 3 megs, unless costs was an issue ( I can understand that) in todays economy. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, that everything goes ok. Hopefully you won't have an ordeal like I did. You will need to contact the billing/sales dept. directly at Verizon online at 1-800-567-6789. That dept. is open from 8am - 6pm (eastern time) Monday-Friday. Good luck. |

1 edit | said by HarryH3 :It's November 23rd and I still haven't received a notification about the new speed increase. Is this supposed to be across all Verizon areas? You know how it is with V* and letting customers know about no cost upgrades... I just went onto their website and they list three plans (did not have to enter any of my info to get the list): 1/384, 3/768 & now 7/768!.

Looks like the 1.5/384 & 768/128 tiers have been melded together. Makes you wonder why they just don't automatically upgrade customers when the speeds are increased (when there's no price increase) without having to call and ask. -- Never raise your hands to your kids. 1 edit | 1.5M is still a lower provisioning option of the 3M plan. The 768K is morphing into 1M/384. Try not to make it more confusing than it already is. No indication where the 5M/768 fits in, unless that is to be a lower provisioning option of the 7M plan. Price for the 5M thing has been hard to come by.
The 768K to 1M upgrade is supposed to be automatic, which is unheard of with Verizon, as it comes online in each CO. |

| Yeah, John...
After I posted that "melded" comment, I realized that the 1.5/384 disappeared, as a tier, quite a while ago and is now a sub-tier of 3/768. Your point is well taken.
I have a relative who lives in Woodbury, NJ who is on the 768/128 plan and we were both interested in seeing if the upgrade would be automatic or if he had to call to get it. -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

2 edits | My guess is your speed is set unless you get a flyer in the mail or they boost speeds once more. I'm going to try calling Verizon again and see what shows up.
EDIT: Good news guys! The billing rep I spoke to was able to find the 1Mbps/384kbps speed, and the order has been placed and I should be seeing my speed boost soon. I'll sound off as soon as it comes. |

| Congrats on the speed upgrade Smith6612! I take it for some reason you didn't qualify for the 3mbit plan? I remember you saying you were only 2 miles from your RT? Still, congratulations on the bump up to 1mbit, for what you were already paying for 768k, that's better than what you had. Let us know how the upgrade went. |

4 edits | No speed as of yet showing up after a modem reboot, so they've probably not made the change at the CO yet. Otherwise, I do qualify for 3Mbps. A neighbor across the street from me has 3Mbps and holds it reliably from the same RT, and we're on the same line from the street as well.
EDIT: Just got an automated call from Verizon stating that my order should be completed on the 2nd of December. I'll let you guys know how it goes. |

4 edits | The reps they have manning the phone lines in billing, which is outsourced to India, are totally clueless. When Verizon first rolls out anything new, it sometimes takes several months before the reps in India are made aware of the changes. Obviously poor communication exists in that company on a large scale. Unfortunately if you are an existing customer, most of the time you are unable to order an upgrade online, as it reports that you are an existing customer, and must contact billing to place an order. The vast majority of people that were able to place an order for one of their new speed tiers did so online and were customers that didn't currently have service with them. I had to wait 6 months before I could place a order for the new 7 meg tier,( have had dsl with Verizon since 2004) as support in India kept saying that no such tier exists, even though their home page clearly stated differently. That rep shouldn't have told you that you had to pay more to upgrade to 1.5mbit, since that tier dosen't really exist as a package of its own. 1.5 is only offered to customers who order the 3 meg package, but because of distance from the nearest central office, don't qualify for the full 3 megs, and instead are automatically provisioned for 1.5 megs at the same 3 meg price. Their official speed tiers are 1/384,3/768, and 7.1/768. If you are too far from your local central office for 7.1 they drop you back to 5 megs instead, at the same 7.1 price. Here is a screenshot of their home-page outlining the various tiers. |
