Who cares?

Nobody that I know with VZ service doesn't use those "perks". Barely anybody uses @verizon email and VZ is used solely as ISP. Days of AOL portals are over. It just sucks for people who used those services, but VZ DSL prices are relatively low, so it's not that bad.

Self absorbed much? Regardless of who you know in your immediate circle who uses email -which evidently must include the entire market since you presume to speak for it- the fact remains that services should be optional, not completely done away with.

Verizon really screwed up my Samba/Windows network by redirecting my failed DNS requests to advertisers. DNS requests should fail when they're wrong. That way, name resolution can continue to other methods.

That said, people ought to not depend on these tacky and tacked-on ISP services, ever. They're handcuffs to keep you from switching ISPs because then you'd have to change your email address (which is free elsewhere), change anti-virus (which is free elsewhere), get your music elsewhere (also free), and etc..

Just pretend they don't exist. The opposite of dependence is INDEPENDENCE!

I hate that, trying to opt-out but my dns on VZ router like to "reset". Hated that.

Good point, limit reliance on ISP, I changed ISP many times, learned my lessons.

Agreed. I could care less. I use VZ DSL as a Dumb Pipe. Their Email is problematic. I use Gmail. Their DNS Sucks with its AD laden 404 screen. OpenDNS works better. Don't need their Portals. My own personal portal is tailored to me because it was written by me. The list goes on.
VZ DSL ? A cheap Dumb Pipe. That's all.

My 2 ¢ YMMV

If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well.
