Verizon really screwed up my Samba/Windows network by redirecting my failed DNS requests to advertisers. DNS requests should fail when they're wrong. That way, name resolution can continue to other methods.

That said, people ought to not depend on these tacky and tacked-on ISP services, ever. They're handcuffs to keep you from switching ISPs because then you'd have to change your email address (which is free elsewhere), change anti-virus (which is free elsewhere), get your music elsewhere (also free), and etc..

Just pretend they don't exist. The opposite of dependence is INDEPENDENCE!

I hate that, trying to opt-out but my dns on VZ router like to "reset". Hated that.

Good point, limit reliance on ISP, I changed ISP many times, learned my lessons.
