The 'main' reason that I picked Cable over Uverse was the bottom line.

AT&T loses out because of the following:
1. VoIP isn't available yet in SoCal ... STILL. AT&T claimed that they'd sell me POTS for $30, but once you add in all the extra fees imposed on POTS, its not worth it.
2. No analog sets - gotta pay extra for each set.

| It is the exact opposite in Hawaii. The best package deal is with Hawaiian Telcom and DSL...I just can't get it. Road Runner and Cable TV and voip (that you still have to have a landline because there is no backup whatsoever for the stupid voip that some folks risk their familie's lives having and that costs a LOT more than landline) are much more expensive. Plus, I don't have a TV although I pay for cable TV bulk rate for our condo. That is not something that can be opted out of. EVEN SO, HawTel com package is a better deal ...even though I pay for cable TV and don't use it.
The bad extra charges are not on a landline. They are for the cable box because you cannot use cable card here and all the other Oceanic TW charges...far more than just a landline which cannot have the price raised every few months like TW does. Much more sensible to go with the landline and dsl if you can get it.
