T1 Circuit Follies

group6 : 6 months ago we dumped Verizon's T1 service for Covad's "superior customer service" and saving $5500/year. I started calling it the Verizon Clown Car. Intermittently, ever since, it seems all the bandwidth gets sucked down for some unknown reason, sometimes capacity running at 80, 90, 105%. For several months, I was trying to track it down on the LAN without success. In general, Covad seems to be reluctant to actually open a ticket. When I got them to look at the packet loss, they opened a ticket last week. They have re-provisioned, change the backhaul, looked at the trunks, taken other customers off the trunk this circuit is on, changed the DS3 card, replaced cross connects (its Verizon's copper, they said it was clean), replaced the Kmart router (Edgemark) with a new one, replaced that router with a Netopia, changed inside pairs, jiggled this wire and kicked that box all without resolution. Still getting 10-20% intermittent packet loss (no loss after hours?!). As of an hour ago, loopbacks to the smart jack and the router are coming up at 93%, they're opening *another* ticket with Verizon-a co-op ticket-the 2 techs show up at the same time and duke it out as to who's problem it is. On the menu for tomorrow: switching to temp cross connects at the CO.

What gives???
