Re: Recording from external source

QuickTime can do simple recording. Not sure if the "Pro" upgrade is required or not though (I have QT Pro, so I can confirm it works with it).

Audacity is very simple to use. I didn't know there was a Mac version though. I have used it before on....e .... windows.

Just use audacity, select line in as the input. Record to a 16-bit 44.1khz sample rate PCM. Save as wav, burn to CD.
I downloaded it. Looks pretty simple to me....

I looked at Garageband.

I saw NOTHING about recording from an external source.
And, it was very, well. Lets say I don't know about beats, notes, scales, Ect...

Try that software in the link, it it doesn't work out right then you oughta give GarageBand a try. I've only used it like twice so far to make ring tones out of songs for my iPhone but being something from Apple it should be pretty easy to figure out, and if not there should be plenty of good tutorials on Apple.com on how to properly use it! Good luck!

WireTap (»www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/wiretap/) will record just about anything playing on your Mac.
I will give this a try. It looks like it should work...
I'll let you know how it works out.
Thanks!

I've never used this, but since I often post about things of which I have absolutely no knowledge of, this is another attempt to secure my reputation.

GarageBand should be able to take care of this, but it may be a little more complex than you're needing (that's the impression I get).

Maybe you could try Audacity. It allows for recording through line input devices among other options. I've never used it, so I'm not sure if it is easier to use than Garageband, but I'll just throw it out there as another option for you to consider.

hmm, neither have I but if you provide enough information maybe we could work through this. iMac's and all the software on them are easy enough to play around with and figure out.

So what exactly is your external hardware? And can you/will you be hooking it up to your iMac and is it compatible?
The external hardware is just a cassette player and cables to plug into the input jack of the computer.

All i have for software, is what came with my Imac. As mentioned, I never used Garageband. Will Itunes do it also?
I'll look at the recommended link given to try too.

Your doing it on a computer I'm guessing. If its a Mac use GarageBand if its a PC, your on your own!

My mother wants to record from a cassette to a CD.
I have the hardware to do it.

But what do I need for software to do the job?

Thanks.
