| reply to Goober said by Goober :Yeah. I think NY Tel missed the appealing portions of the video showing the underside of the seat and the rim of the bowl . lol...I did at first because I have replaced many of these and figured "what's the big deal?", then I looked at the entire thing. One word came to mind when I saw the bottom part of the toilet........

| reply to artisticcheese I have been using Korky Quiet fills. »www.korky.com/FillValve528.html Oldest one is 5 years no problems.
When they do go bad you just replace a small part of the unit. Cost like 2 or 3 bucks. Cap assembly or something.
Now as far as them being quieter never really noticed but then toilet filling never bothered me. |

1 edit | reply to Goober said by Goober :Reminds me of that horror movie "Rest Stop." I've watched this toilet video in horrified fascination at least 4 times. With all due respect to all of you, that top part of the toilet gets discolored from the iron and other minerals in the water. Yes, occasionally you could shut off the supply valve, flush the toilet and throw some bleach in the tank top to clean out any bacteria but that is clean water in the top tank. The bottom part is simply disgraceful.... Also when the rubber seals wear out, the water could turn black from the seals dissolving. Normal behavior and appearance. -- Love when you can - cry when you have to, be who you must, that's a part of the plan, await your arrival with simple survival and one day we'll all understand... |

2 edits | reply to artisticcheese Get one of these!
Out with the OLD and in with new technology that works MUCH better for longer than any of that FluidMaster (I HATE FLUIDMASTER!!!!!) crap or other cheap float-ball type valves. The new diaphragm type valves simply work GREAT! You'll never go back.
I also like how quickly the tank fills with these. They are much quieter too. Some float-ball designs can shudder or whistle when filling.
Seriously, if you install one, you wont have to fuss with your tank fill valve again for a very long time. I've put in 8 or 10 for friends and family and at different properties, and I've never had to replace or service a single one

| reply to artisticcheese Don't get the Home Depot/Lowe's plastic assembly - they're pretty much designed to fail. Spend the extra few bucks and get a brass assembly. It'll outlast the toilet and you won't have to change anything for years. Any plumbing supply store will carry them - just make sure you get the manufacturer of the toilet and model (if accessible). Take off the tank lid and turn it upside down - the information should be there. |

1 edit | reply to artisticcheese said by artisticcheese :What would be solution for this problem? Buy a repair kit and fix the broken diaphragm in the flush valve. Then fix the float level to have the water stop right at the top edge of the overflow tube unless you see the fill line in the upper tank, then use that mark instead.
It is easy to fix and is made to be repaired since it has 4 easy to remove screws instead of rivets right in the top.
Your old flush valve is a better build and is made to outlast you. Don't toss it, repair it. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

| reply to artisticcheese said by artisticcheese :Hi, I have a problem with my toilet not refilling fully bowl with water after flash (about 10% refilled only). If I open tank then I see a lot of water gushing through filler valve during flash and very little coming through overflow tube. What would be solution for this problem? Thanks, G You better replace the whole assembly like others also suggested before something more serious happens like water overflowing and water damage as result.Like mentioned it's not expensive and use the Fluidmaster if available |

| reply to artisticcheese It appears that the diaphragm or seal under the 4-screw top cap is shot.
The ballcock (fill valve) in the tank is either a HooverLine or a Coast (who furnished them to most all toilet manufacturers for years).
Since one brand won't retrofit into another, try writing down all that is printed on the top cap to see if you can buy a replacement.
An alternative, as others have noted, is to replace the entire ballcock with a Fluidmaster kind. This would eliminate the float rod and ball. Most all home centers as well as hardware stores stock replacement diaphragms for them. |
