Caps?

I thought only a selected portion of the US was undergoing a "cap trial".....

Is there now also a nationwide at&t u-verse cap?

Well you'd think so from reading these "doom is upon us", "AT&T sucks", "I'm cancelling my AT&T service today" posts.

But, no. AT&T has announced a trial, starting next month IIRC, in Reno, Nevada. If it does roll out nationally, it'll be months down the road, and the terms may change.

It is currently a trial in Reno, NV only. Just as Time Warner has their trial in Beaumont, TX.

However, AT&T generally takes a much more unified approach to things. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes years for Time Warner to roll out caps to all markets, if they do at all. There's also the issue of what will TW do when they are servicing areas that overlap both AT&T and capless Verizon FIOS areas as they do in the Los Angeles area.

Depending on the outcome of the trial, I can see AT&T starting up metered usage for everyone as early as the beginning of next year. They probably don't want to rock the boat too much yet, they've promised investors that they're going to reach 1 million U-verse customers by the end of the year.

Does anybody else think that a Sunday is a strange day to debut a new internet tier?

And it still has a good chance (from what I hear) that it still might fall flat on it's face.
