FALLOUT 3 NUKED MY PC!

So I went to play Fallout 3 as usual, went to the title screen, entered the game, when suddenly tons of red dots appeared all over and my video card died

I took it out and checked, pci-express slot still works.

I'm now getting an Antec 900 and Gtx 260 to replace my now dead evga 8800gts 640 (I kinda hope evga gives me a gtx 260 so I can sli...), but it was funny to have this happen, esp. when you go to play Fallout 3...

Now, anybody reading this topic: It's just for shit and giggles. Fallout 3 won't nuke your pc, and my card had been overheating for a while when I had played a game for several hours.

The worst part of all was that in game, I was on my way to vault 87...

It's all the damn Enclaves fault, they obviously don't want me travelling to Vault 87....

You hafta admit, fallout 3 nuking your pc would amuse you (A little while after it happened at least), versus, say it suddenly dying or dying to a game your deep into

Boo to the thread title. Fallout3 is no where near as harsh as a lot of recent games. An 8800GTS 640MB is an original 8800 - which would mean that card is two years old. It may have never been cooling properly and finally fried. How often did you blow dust out of it?

Actually I had one of those cards (believe it or not) up until two months ago. It was an original - so almost two years old. I bought a GTX 260 and the performance difference was AMAZING. A lot of what I had read about it indicated it wouldn't have been so drastic but the 640MB 8800GTS were a whole lot different the the 8800's that came out later.

I also have a Antec 900 case. It's a little bit tight - but I love it. My only fear is if the top fan goes out. You have to order a new one from Antec. I also tried pulling it out once to clean the fins of and getting to it didn't seem possible. With the 900 case there's a few other features missing that kind of depress me - and cable management is a pain in the rear with that case. It's still one heck of a good case with probably the best airflow of all cases.

Fallout3: I played for a long time past 20 and finally finished the main quest line. I was so PISSED at the ending of the game I haven't touched it since. Up until that - I was in love with the game.

kudos:1

My issue with my new Antec 900 is with the motherboard I bought... the power switch wire was just BARELY long enough (I bought an extender)... and yes.. wire management is pretty hard (I am not an organized person anyway lol)... but with as many fans as is in it... it is a very nice case.

Yeah, well... Of all the recent great looking games, Fallout 3 is very ugly, but is probably the best game of the year.

Sure, I can burn down forests in Far Cry 2, kill South Africans, and then come back and kill the same people again and burn down the same forests... But it ain't the same.

this is why overclocking is a horrible idea, and during summer, underclocking might even be a good idea. case to case scenarios of course.
