Will my new GTX 260 blow a circuit?

Since my old 8800gts 640 died while playing Fallout 3 earlier today, I bought a gtx 260 (And no, it was perfectly stable, used the damn thing for 2 years, only recently the video card started overheating during long gaming bouts).

Thing is, I've been sorta hesitant to upgrade. I got the 8800 gts 640 2 years ago, got my e6400 when it came out, haven't really upgraded, except to add 2 gigs ram.

I've got a good enough psu, everything, so that ain't the problem.

THis is:

My pc is a htpc, with 40 1080p lcd, 200 watt speakers, directv, etc.

I dunno if the load will be too much for the wall circuit.

How muhc more power draw does a gtx 260 take versus 8800 gts 640?

get riva tuner and make sure you fan is running at acceptable speeds cause if its anything like the 8800 series the fan didnt rev past 40% unless you manually set it higher.you can also check temp with it to keep and eye on it.

other then that if your case has good airflow you should be ok

Welll...... I mean the wall plug itself, which as far as I know only can go up to 1600 watts.

I've got all this equipment on 1 ups system.

The psu is 750 watts, no issue there.

As far as overheating, how high are the temps? You can use rivatuner, or a simplified EVGA Precision to turn the fans higher if you think the temps are too high.

Both programs are made by the same guy, just precision is easier to use...

The 8800gts 640 takes ~100W at load vs ~130-160W for the GTX260 depending if you bought the 192SP vs the newer 216SP version or bought a factory OCed card.

Re: Will my new GTX 260 blow a circuit?

Thanks. That doesn't sound like it'll become a concern. My nexrt upgrade will be alot trickier, quad core.

Not really an issue. It will add 100 watts to load max, so add up the peak current drain. If it's less than 1500, you are fine. Just don't plug a coffee maker or vacuum cleaner into the same circuit.

LOL.

.... Of course you can't fault all vacuum cleaners as 1000 watts now. My Irobot 530 uses maybe 10 watts on it's lithium battery...

But yeah, attaching a coffee maker would be bad

Or a laser printer. I've popped a breaker when printing. Heating element and all that...

May as well add portable heating units?

But yeah, that's the main reason I have no laser printers, the sheer amount of power needed.

Yeah, a lot of it depends on what you have on the circuit itself. If you can, it might be worth looking into giving that room its own spot on the breaker.

Put everything together. MB temps at less then 30c. Cpu still hovering near 50c, trying to figure out why, of course I have it overclocked...

Pc runs smooth as silk. Had alot of issues starting up though, I connect to my tv via dvi-hdmi, and apparantly these cards force audio and video to hdmi...

After connecting spdif from the video card to my x-fi, everything's fine.

Temps are fine. My Q6600 (o/c to 3.0) idles at 70C and when gaming hits 92C w/o a burp. My GTX 260 idles at 62C and games at 72C.
