MAX 18

well i finally caved last night and opted to give the max 18 a try. set it to activate today and lo and behold when i woke up there it was already ready to go. initial speed tests look like they are right on the money.

looks like the same profile on the 2wire that I had before. I plan on calling up AT&T in the next week or so to cancel the u100 on my plan. anyone know what the cap is for max18 or has AT&T not mentioned what it will be?

Nice! The earliest date was Nov 14 for me.

AT&T hasn't updated their BUMT FAQ to include Max 18 yet, but I'll be interested to see what the cap is as well.

Re: MAX 18

I was able to order it today, no error message like I got on Sunday. My new price is $65/month (I am Internet Only).

My speedtest to Fort Worth from Austin only shows a little under 12 megabits though. I wonder what's going on.

Tried it again with my software firewall turned off. A bit better but I was expecting at least 16 or 17 megabits.

Also as expected no profile change:

Max Rate: 49128 kbs Not Available
Current Connection:
Current Noise Margin: 19.0 dB Not Available

$65 is the same price no matter if you TV or not.

Try testing it at the SBC servers as well. I don't always get good results from speedtest.net

I don't think the BBR speed tests "like" this particular speed profile.

I get the best results from the speakeasy.net speed tests, which for me, have always had the most accurate results.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 17270 kbps (2158.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1482 kbps (185.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Speedtest.net does good too on certain fast servers:

Yeah, definitely CALL to get the upgrade if you want it. AT&T not only did the order immediately, but was able to keep my bundle discount and threw in a $20 gift card.

I wish I would have known that I have my iphone combined billing and I lost my $10 discount so this is gonna cost $20 extra a month for me

Do you get any sort of incentive for combining your billing? When I chose that option, the only listed benefit was "more convenient - one bill". I have AT&T Wireless but am waiting for them to offer some sort of bundle incentive. They're both on automatic payment so I don't really care if it's two line items on my credit card bill or one.

well yee freakin' hah. Speakeasy gives me (to Dallas server):

Download Speed: 17270 kbps (2158.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1435 kbps (179.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Thanks for the pointer.

Ya I was getting a $10 discount(before max 18) as a wireless bundle. I don't think it showed in the price estimate and it took like 2 months to combine so I didn't get a cell phone bill for awhile but the discount started right away. Also I don't have tv through att so I don't know if you could get an additional discount if you're already getting one

Alright I decided to try out the Max 18 plan for awhile. I ordered online, waited 5 minutes, rebooted my RG, and now I have it. The speedtests on this site only show me with about 12 down and 1 up, but speedtest.net and speakeasy.net both show 17.3 down, and 1.4 up.

You actually don't have to reboot your RG.

how the hell are they offering 18 meg with the sync rate still being at 25? I take it speed will suffer if you watch TV? Not that it will matter for me since I won't be getting AT&T's TV service.
