| Is RCN capable of 20mbs ?
Ive read the other threads , SAME issue. 20 only during ridiculously late hours of night , and early in the morning. Afternoons top out at 8-10 , at night Im lucky to get 6-7.
Your Modem Mac 00:1b:d7:1b:47:e4 Your IP ((edited out) Forward Frequency 735000000 Return Frequency 24816000 Forward Modulation qam256(4) Modem TX Power 32 dBmV Foward Signal to Noise 36.4 dB Downstream Ratelimit 22000000 Forward Power Level 4.6 dBmV Upstream Ratelimit 2200000
2 modem swaps , numerous phone calls , no results.
Is anyone on RCN getting these speeds during peak hours ? Ive talked to many in Queens after I informed them and except for one all say no they do not.
This is a common problem with RCN regardless of area. Has a problem been pinpointed or a better course of action to fix this ? |

| Something about your modem TX power doesn't look right. Looks to be too low (unless the reading is erroneous).
No problems hitting full bw in my neighborhood during peak hrs. Then again, mostly old folks around here.. -- Insanity is living in a state of disillusion. |

| Same here, I've been with RCN a little over a year, and other then the past two to three weeks of occasional packet loss (which I think is finally gone *knock on wood*) I have been a solid 20Mbps regardless of time, I love it.
Do you have any splitters in your house? Any lose wires? |

  its all good
| reply to kof33 I get 21Mbps at all the time except 6pm-12am, and that's cool with me. |

| reply to kof33 What does TX power directly correlate to ?
IIRC I was the first in my area to get RCN , which would probably explain why my service was fine for the first few months.
My line is direct from the outside line to the box on the wooden pole.
I could double check but I wouldnt see a reason for there to be any splits or loose wires.
Could someone have gotten lazy on a neighbors install ? |

·RCN CABLE
| reply to kof33 One must remember, cable internet is still a SHARED medium.
Cable internet has come a long way to improve capacity, but you are still 'sharing' the nodes speed with your neighbors.
Right now, RCN has the capacity of 42.88mbps down and 10.24mbps up per node. This is based on the Docsis 1.0 specs which RCN uses. I am not sure how many customers 1 node serves, but it's probably a couple hundred at least.
So given these facts, if you have 2 users downloading at 20mbps per node, the node is maxed and other users will experience a slowdown. :X

Most nodes are not oversold.
In a real life, the only response you ever get from them, if any, is a scripted statement of a permanent denial. |
