I guess there are clearly some Teksavvy folks not playing WOW. Time to whip out some "Recruit-a-friend" invites so they can conveniently call in sick

Well, I guess the only thing we can do in this case(as I play WoW myself) is to change out sleeping patterns in the next couple days so you can play WotLK after the maintenance!
That is clearly my plan! -- TSI Jason - TekSavvy Solutions, Inc. Authorized TSI employee (»TekSavvy FAQ »Official support in the forum )

Not sure the entirety of the situation but as far as I know we're going to be adding a new ERX1440 to the mix.... It's where we're going moving forward. So, for those who don't know the significance of this, it's the next level after the ERX310 routers... This is pretty major and defines a new era in hardware for TSI.
Believe we're also adding Gig-E connections 6 & 7 as well (not 100% sure, but I believe this is the case... haven't had a chance to chat with Marc about much of this yet).

| Re: Maitence on WOLTK release? FO PA! I don't really think people are complaining too much.
For me, WoW has become boring... and I'll be quitting it shortly. They've dumbed down the game so much, that it isnt fun. The ONE thing thats still fun in the game... is racing to max level. It's sort of a contest...see who can be the server first.
With downtime... 6-7 hours worth, that pretty much leaves a big chunk of people out. And this is something that happens once every 2 years... so for some, it's a pretty big deal.
I'd be really annoyed if it happened to me >_ Though... I would understand. I'd probably just get a temp login from another ISP for a month to be sure

| Re: Maitence on WOLTK release? FO PA! Bah... I played LoTRO for a bit... couldn't get into it.
It probably is a great game... but lets face it, WoW entered the MMO market strong, its got people addicted to it's playstyle, and people don't like change... I think one of the huge reasons the past MMOs have failed, is because people not wiling to part with WoW, except a select few. I think blizz earnings showed that 80-90% of people who quit and put WAR, LOTRO, or AoC down as the reason... have already returned (pre expac).
Just too used to wow :\ | |

I think blizz earnings showed that 80-90% of people who quit and put WAR, LOTRO, or AoC down as the reason... have already returned (pre expac). Just too used to wow :\ WoW had a strong entry because of blizzard.net. They already had large installed base of online gamers. And a large installed base of Warcraft players. It was an advantage that most other companies in the MMO market didn't have.
Turbine has a large installed base of AC, AC2, DDO players. Admittedly not to the degree that Blizzard had, but a good enough base to maintain a 3rd MMO. Lotro is firmly ensconced as the second largest North American MMO - and it's looking at something like a 3rd Game of the Year win with MoM's launch.
WAR and AoC were doomed from the start. :-P WAR because it's an EA product put out by Mythic Entertaiment. If you don't see a problem there, look back at Star Wars Galaxies. One might think that Mythic would be a moderating influence on EA, but..well...I beta'd DaoC, and actually contributed to it's strat guide. Mythic wasn't the most savvy company to ever put out an MMO.
But they *were* much wiser in comparison to Funcom, producers of Age of Conan, whose beta version of AoC was so unstable and bug ridden that launching a beta caused them to postpone the game for more then a year. Funcom has a crappy MMO track record, starting at Abomination ... er ... Anarchy Online - which I was also a tester for ... briefly.
Funny thing is that when I started playing WoW, back in it's beta, I only did so as a filler game waiting for Lotro. Back then there were many, many elements of the game that were clearly lifted from other MMO's such as Asheron's Call 2 and SWG, even EQ. *Now* when we get new people into the LOTRO forums, many of them say things like "stolen from WoW" about features that were a staple in MMO's long before WoW. :-P And of course, the current WoW expansion includes a good few LOTRO innovations. :-P
Personally, the biggest difference between the 2, in my not so humble opinion, is that the graphics are a more cartoon style in WoW, and the storylines are different. Many features in both games cross over. I just like the storyline in Lotro better, and prefer the more realistic, card destroying graphics in LOTRO.

| Re: Maitence on WOLTK release? FO PA! Agreed, most of the mmos are pretty simular. Takes a bit more then a name to back up a game though, (Though EA being involved these days usually calls a lot of people in for a boycott :\)
I played LOTRO for a bit... went back to WoW. I guess, I realize I'm addicted to WoW...and while LOTRO could be fun, I don't want to be addicted to 2 games! And I'm a bit of a perfectionist... I like knowing all the inns/outs of games, I cant see myself getting that into LOTRO to do that, so I'm just sticking to WoW (Though with the way blizz has a new outlook on casuals... I'm thinking of quitting soon, the games way too easy now, and it just keeps getting easier...)
LoTR seems to have a more mature playerbase, I guess thats one of the benefits of not having 10 million people playing the game >_

1 edit | You may call it "Just a game" but I've already put $400 into my machine as well as my Wife's and am still planning on forking out another $400 for 2 copies of the game(1 CE and 1 Regular), and the last few things for our systems, JUST for this expantion. I've been playing this game since just after launch and power leveled my current main in under 2 weeks realtime from 0-70 when BC launched..
Wednesday Night/Thursday morning is the single most important night for any serious WoW player over the last 2 years.. They HAD to have known when they scheduled this (considering so many of there own employee's play), or at least anytime before they sent out the emails that this MAJOR MMO event was happening that night. They just obviously dont care.
I've already started looking for a new ISP. Any company who would take down there service at the same time when the Largest MMO game (probably in history) with such a MASSIVE following is launching there BIGGEST Expansion.. Obviously has very little regard for there subscribers.
Can you imagine if you were a cable provider who decided they needed to do maintenance on Superbowl Sunday? (and yes, for hardcore WoW player's, this is the same thing.. biggest day of the year)
Edit: BTW I came to DSL reports to find DSL providers in my area and decided to come in here to see if any other WoW players had anyting to say about this "inconvience" as they are calling it.

| I'm also going tomorrow night for the midnight release. I have already actually paid for the game. I'm also installing it now. Blizzard has download links up for people to get a head start. I'd thought I'd add my two cents while I'm waiting for the servers to come back up to do our last Sunwell raid. Hopefully I can finally get my bow! Please, for all that is holy in this world, do the maintenance another time! | |
