| reply to morisato LOL, actually the only reason I have Bell, is because I'm unmotivated toward change (because its generally a hassle) and we were on a contract due to the girl who originally moved out (when i moved in) changing the phone line to David's name.
But I guess you could consider the 2 times (maintenance windows) that I've had to change my login over as outages! |

| reply to morisato ok... lemme ask you this. Would you rather know in advance that there will be an outage on this date or be in the middle of an instance(dunno if thats the right term) when the outage happens... any outage is going to inconvenience someone. maybe for a game, maybe a last minute project maybe an important email.... point being its gonna be in a pain in the ass for someone. so just get over it already... seriously, I dont get this whole thing... people in my family wanting me to stand in line at midnight with them to protect them from what they figure will be "lots of people" it makes me sad... the game will be there a few hours later, its not gonna go anywhere(unless you have a break in or something)... its not the end of the world. Plus you have no guarantee that all the servers on blizzard's end are going to function correctly on time anyways... you just assume they will...
anyways... that felt really really good to get off my chest. /rant |

| reply to TSI Jason Presumably you use your TekSavvy login on both lines anyhow to do MLPPP. You could switch the second line over to TSI to get the employee discount, and then get a secondary login from Velcom, eBox, Acanac, etc. in order to have the redundancy there.
Actually, eBox is probably your best choice for a secondary login (if they offer such a service) because they're the only one of those ISPs who doesn't have their network core in Toronto. It's in Montreal. If something happens at 151 Front, they'd be unaffected. |

| reply to RePTiLE4 said by RePTiLE4 :I'm a little disappointed there's maintenance Thursday, really wanted to start up WOTLK. What kind of maintenance are you guys doing Thursday? I can hope there's very little downtime! Not sure the entirety of the situation but as far as I know we're going to be adding a new ERX1440 to the mix.... It's where we're going moving forward. So, for those who don't know the significance of this, it's the next level after the ERX310 routers... This is pretty major and defines a new era in hardware for TSI.
Believe we're also adding Gig-E connections 6 & 7 as well (not 100% sure, but I believe this is the case... haven't had a chance to chat with Marc about much of this yet).

And is it possible to give more details on that "new era" as in the possibility of IPv6 or VDSL or something crazy like that that us TSI geeks dream about? |

Your service would simply not work and you'd have to spend time troubleshooting and calling the drones in india.

| The maintenance shouldn't be too long. Maybe a half-hour to an hour of down time is what I'm anticipating. We really do need these upgrades. The total time we'll be there will be longer but as far as down time for everybody it should be fairly straight forward. -- TSI Marc - TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

| Some of us here used to play and some still play WoW. One thing we do know is that every single major patch that they released never made it through properly. The WoW servers would be buggy, down or just simply unable to even login.
Like Marc said, the maintenance window is between 12 and 6 but that doesn't mean that it will be down during that whole period. It will be intermittent at most. |

| reply to Ikarasu said by Ikarasu :I don't really think people are complaining too much. For me, WoW has become boring... and I'll be quitting it shortly. They've dumbed down the game so much, that it isnt fun. The ONE thing thats still fun in the game... is racing to max level. It's sort of a contest...see who can be the server first. With downtime... 6-7 hours worth, that pretty much leaves a big chunk of people out. And this is something that happens once every 2 years... so for some, it's a pretty big deal. I'd be really annoyed if it happened to me >_ Though... I would understand. I'd probably just get a temp login from another ISP for a month to be sure Change to Lord of the Rings Online. Better game. More quests. Greater storyline. Lifetime subs only $199 (limited time on Mines of Moria release...) Do I work for Turbine? No, but I play one on TV... |

Any company who would take down there service at the same time when the Largest MMO game (probably in history) with such a MASSIVE following is launching there BIGGEST Expansion.. Obviously has very little regard for there subscribers. Why so serious? Do you really think the game is gonna be playable for 48 hours after launch? Doubt it. You're not missing anything but an enormous lagfest. |

| reply to LoKi DarkGod said by LoKi DarkGod :said by morisato :For those of u who are seriously bent out by it can I suggest a Temp login to a Different Dsl provider? I know wow has over 10 million Subscribers... worldwide and all. but oh well I've been calling around frantic trying to find an ISP that will leave give me an active login and password that I can use immediately, but they are all giving me the BS about 5-9 days to deactivate current DSL and turn theirs on.. Anyone had any luck finding someone? Guy, be calm. Read the note from TSI again. They don't say the service is going to be down at all...just that fgor that 12 hour period they are going to be doing maintainance, and you *might* get disconnected. Like, briefly, if at all. It's not the end of the world. |

I could have free internet, but instead I choose to pay a little more so that if one network is undergoing maintenance or having trouble I can switch to another. While internet is not an 'essential' service, is is quickly becoming just that no matter what the rules outline, and in this case if this is a situation that can happen, you may want to consider a back-up like I have! I can't tell you how many times its releived aggrevation for me! FYI: I'm pretty much addicted to WoW, like Loki I have cleared all content and have been in some of the best guilds in the game, so I know where people are coming from in some respects as new content has not come out in a while. THANK YOU!!! lol coming from someone AT Teksavvy.. you can understand mine, and others, fustrations.. Got any pointers on backup services? lol I know you cant promote another company in public thread, but IM maybe? So this doesnt happen again.. though it'll be several more years before an xpac launches, so I got time.. Loki - if you're really that worried about the possible downtime, PM me and I'll set you up an alternate login on my other DSL wholesaler. Same goes for anyone else. All you'll have to do is change the username/password you use to log in.
I'll offer it for free, for the 13th and 14th, they'll stop working at 11:59pm on the 14th. Just because I like TSI so much. |
