Is this usual? Or should I post in direct...

Just switched over to TS few days ago and I've just tried the speed test

the download with bell was between 4200~4300 so is quite a bit slower now. Is it time of day throttling? It's 10:15 on a Tuesday night so not sure if that's a factor. I am running the tomato/MLPPP on my WRT54GL (under MLPPP it shows 'single- link' in the MLPPP) and my 2wire is set to bridge. Is there something else I can look at to fix this?

Yeah, you got switched to 3008/800 profile... Bell loves doing this when people switch from Bell to other ISP's... Post in the direct forum, they'll put in a ticket to raise the profile...

ya, everyone seems to get one of those.

But the good news is you don't have to call Bell to get it fixed, so you've already saved about 45min and a lot of headache. :0)

My simple question: Is bell can do this legally?

Yep..I'm much happier not having to deal with BS at all..I'll sit back and wait for TS to help me. I've posted in the direct forum but seems they can't see much until I've been with them for 72 hours ...so maybe tomorrow I'll get my old speed back. I just did another test and it's still slow - so it wasn't just a throttle or glitch ...they sabotaged me

I spoke to a very nice TS rep who said he'd put in a request for me - within 2 hours I'm fixed

Better than I was before

Thanks all!

This probably just fluctuation at speedtest.net. Can you post line stats?

reply to jackie999
It's not really fluctuating..once it drops it pretty much stays that way. I'm not too sure how to do the line stats ...I think I have to remove the WRT54GL and 'un-bridge' the 2700HG-B and set it up with my username/pw ...after that I didn't know what to use - I usually run linux but can also run XP if someone tells me what to run to get the stats I will do that.

There will be no need to 'un-bridge' the 2700HG-B. You don't even need to authenticate PPPoE to get line stats. Just plug your 2wire directly into your PC and log into the modems' interface (»192.168.1.254 or »172.16.0.1) to get the line stats. It really depends if it is a bell 2wire or an SMC 2wire...

Your modem is getting 2976/800 which is not an actual profile, so we can deduct that you are getting partial sync. The closest profile would be : 2496/800. Youre being sent 6016/800 but syncing at 2976/800. Try restarting your modem and make sure that your dsl is set up like the image above. Make sure that your modem is not filtered, things like that. Otherwise call TSI support, I am sure they are not currently busy...

Thanks again benojoel. The TSI support fellow was very helpful earlier and fixed me up. I thought I was good to go, then noticed my speed was going up and down like a yo-yo ...I think over the next few days they are working on the system so I will leave it for the time being - I'm sure they are busy. If it doesn't level off in a few days I will call them again.

If it's working sometimes then it sounds like you have some sort of intermittent interference. Is there anything on your phone line that isn't filtered (other than the modem)? This includes alarm systems, satellite TV boxes, caller ID displays, etc. Are you using a high quality cable from the modem to wall jack? How long is it?

Taylortbb, I was reading posts on what the noise, attenuation and all meant and realized I should look at my inside wiring - and as you suggested, other things on the line. Now I know how to get the stats from the 2wire I can see if I can tweak it.

Just to let you know, those Y adapters for phone jacks, as shown in the picture, often times introduce incredible amounts of noise (seen it firsthand!). Try it direct to the phone jack without the adapter to be sure...
