Sound sync issue

I have an XP MCE PC with a Studio Movieboard.

I have a VCR that is acting as a TV tuner connected to the video input. The audio is fed through the line in on a c-media 5.1 sound card. I'm using Media Player classic to feed the signal through to watch TV on the PC. Media Player Classic is the only media player that I found that did this easily, but I'm not hooked on it. So if you know of a better way to do this, I'm all ears.

The problem I'm having is that the video is just slightly ahead of the sound. It's just enough to be annoying. How can I set the video back about 1/2 second to sync with the sound?

After further experimenting, I found that the issue is the sound. Over the course of an hour or so, the sound gets further, and further behind the video. When you change the channel on the VCR, the picture changes, but the sound is still playing from the last channel.

I'm really confused now, because I thought I was strictly dealing with analog. On the sound card, when audio is sent to the audio in, and routed to the speakers out, is there a digital conversion process going on?

hmmm. worked for you doing what? I used TMPGEnc years ago to do video conversion. Are you saying it's a media player now?

You use it to sync audio/video files.

It's not a file. It's simply a feed. Will this still work?

No you need to capture it first as a file and then sync it. If it's being captured out of sync I don't know of any way to correct that other than to upgrade your system

Ok, what do you suppose would cause the sound to get out of sync on a live feed?

Do you know of something better than Media Player classic for watching a live feed?

I would say an underpowered system. Upgrade your CPU.

It's a 2.4 GHz P4. I don't think that should be an issue for simply playing sound in real time. Besides the CPU usage is only hovering around 13%. Perhaps the sound card has a problem. I'll bet I have another one around here somewhere.
