LCD Makers to Plead Guilty in Price-Fixing Scheme

Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) -- LG Display Co., Chunghwa Picture Tubes and Sharp Corp. have agreed to plead guilty and pay $585 million in criminal fines for conspiring to fix prices of liquid crystal display panels, the U.S. Justice Department announced.

Seoul, South Korea-based LG Display will pay $400 million, the second-highest criminal fine the department's antitrust division has ever imposed. Chunghwa will pay $65 million for conspiring with LG Display and other unnamed companies and Sharp will pay $120 million, according to the Justice Department.

Of course, any person who bought an overpriced LCD within the past few years will never see any of the money.

funny how LCD prices have halved every year since their inception... bottoming out now because they cant get much lower regarding production costs. theyll prolly come down more over the next few years but it's a pretty solid price for the time being.

anyone who bought an 'overpriced' LCD either bought them years ago or doesnt know where to shop.

Your definition of LCD seems narrow. It's not just TVs, but everything with a LCD:

“These price-fixing conspiracies affected millions of American consumers who use computers, cellphones and numerous other household electronics every day,” Mr. Barnett said...

"The Justice Department, in a statement, noted that the price-fixing conspiracy affected screens sold to American companies, and cited three by name: Dell, Apple and Motorola. Those companies, and others, could have the basis for private suits."

Not to mention MP3 players, radios, security panels, displays in control equipment, etc.
