Honestly it costs them 250 million to launch a satellite. Anywhere Evdo is available people are going to take that over satellite.
Really? Should my friend take Verizon's data plan at $60 and a 5 GB monthly cap with $256 per GB overage charges or Hughesnet's $60 plan which has a cap that averages out to 6 GB a month but also has 5 hour cap free window daily?
Depends on how much he uses. Personally the 1Gb of difference isn't that big of a deal.

If he has no intention of gaming then sure tell him to get a slower satellite service with a slightly higher cap. Hopefully the weather holds out because as others have stated rain, snow, extreme fog, clouds = no internet. I just thought of one other thing. On there 60$ plan whats there download limit per day? I know if I've got 1GB to download on my Evdo card I can do it at full tilt. How long till he starts downloading at slower than dial up speeds?

I agree there overage system sucks. Thank god I don't have to worry about that because I'm already over 6GB for the month with 2 weeks till mine resets.
sure is funny we have severe fog right now and im still online, and hardly ever lose service due to weather a real bad storm has to be right on top of me before i lose service, and all that with a signal of 60.the 60 dollar plan is 200 mb a day,but from 2 am to 7 am is unlimited.if i could get evdo that didn't have a cap on it i would love to use it,but i will not use one that does, and use 5 gigs in a week then not have a internet connection for the remaining 3 weeks
