[Internet] PPPoE with Linksys Router and SpeedStream Modem

Click for full size
Old photo, but same problem.
Lately I've been having problems with this setup. It was working fine until last night, when it seemed to stopped randomly, and I have not been able to get it to work since.

I use a SpeedStream 4200, combined with a Linksys WRT54G router.

I'm sure I have set it up properly (making the SpeedStream go into bridge mode by resetting it, and then configuring PPPoE on the Linksys Router), and the status page on the router even displays it as being connected.

However, I still cannot access the internet on neither my desktop, or my wireless laptop. The connection seems to work fine if I connect directly into the SpeedStream, but not when I throw the router into the mix.

This has happened a few times, and I tend to go a day or two trying various methods of getting it to work, and then it just seems to work again out of the blue when I give up.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have had this happen too. It seems to be a problem that the dns server sometimes doesn't get served up in this configuration. You can set dns servers either in the router or in network connections on the computers. The router is simpler. I use opendns but 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.3 work well too.

Interesting, it seemed to work after I input the OpenDNS numbers.

Thanks a lot!
