Does anyone remember the Zenith Space Phone?<br><br>We had a console set with that. You could make a call using the remote, and when the phone rang it would mute the TV.  But, if someone ended up talking awhile, you would miss some of a favorite show.  <br><br>Onscreen caller ID might be nice, especially if it didn't disrupt a show and the call was answered elsewhere. But, we still have our small GTE caller ID and there are other improvements/additions that I'd rather see.<br>Mark F]]></description>

It's like you have a dedicated fiber connection to the CO for your phone service - the internet is not involved.  The ONT simply decodes/encodes the POTS inside your house from/to the optical signal on the fiber.<br><br>There are three separate signals imposed on the single fiber to your house. In for voice/data, Out for voice and data and In for the impressed TV RF signals.<br><small>--<br>Never raise your hands to your kids. The ONT already does that translation/decoding.<br><br>In order to display caller ID on your TV screen, there would have to be some bridging done, somewhere (in the ONT or CO), to impress it on the MoCA or video signals delivered to the STBs.  They are two separate animals.  Also, there would need to be firmware in the STBs to decode the caller ID data and display it as an overlay on the screen.<br><br>Frankly, I'd hope they get what is already supposed to be working fixed properly BEFORE they try to add another feature that will (more than likely) impact negatively on some aspect of STB performance.<br><small>--<br>Never raise your hands to your kids. Verizon can display caller id information with a coax connection just as other cable companies can.  No phone jack is necessary.<br><br>Some other cable companies already do this and as indicated above, Verizon has indicated its intention to do the same.  Note you will need telephone service from Verizon to take advantage of this feature when it is available; it won't work with other services like Vonage.]]></description>
