Microwave hub site

Click for full size
Hub site tower
Following on from »Microwave repeater/add/drop site...

Work went ahead at the hub site mentioned in the above thread.

Attached is a picture of the tower itself. I tried to take some pictures of the gear but couldnt get front on enough so you cant see much. I need a wider lens, 18mm just aint enough apparently.

Anyway, In the attached photo:

* The very top antenna points back towards the capital city. We have a repeater on a hill outside the city as there is no direct line of sight in.
* The next antenna down points to the tower in the thread mentioned above.
* The two other large dishes are for a space diversity link to another tower further into this particular network.

There are other various sized small antennas hanging off this one pointing towards other PoPs and customers. We have a WiMAX and Canopy base station on this tower aswell (you can just see the sectors sticking above the top of the tower).

Thats what I mean about free space.

Re: Microwave hub site

Just a little hut with room for 3 racks.

Most of our towers are 3 leg self supporting, not all this size - some bigger, some smaller. We have a few light duty guyed masts for some smaller base stations too.

Small update: We have secured funding for a new network build, which means we'll have two more big dishes hanging off this tower. They will be relatively low down and as such no additional strengthening is required (or so our tower engineers assure us).

The two new dishes will be hooked up to an Alcatel 9600LSY radio and will run in space diversity. These things (the LSYs) are massive, and are a 100% indoor solution, so we'll only have two big fat waveguides (probably Andrew Heliax elliptical) running up to the new dishes.

See here for a picture of some LSYs: »b.snnap.net/photos/network/alcat···lsys.jpg

They are relatively shallow, such that you could put two back to back and they wouldnt take up even as much room as a rack. The ones in this picture arent ours, but we'll be getting 6 of our own.

This is a couple of months off yet, but rest assured I'll provide pr0n where I can.
