| HDTV/QAM Tuner Help
How are you doing, today we just went out and bought a 40" Toshiba 40RV525U hdtv, currently to our home we have the comcast digtal basic package and we have two digital tv boxes, and we are not subscribed to any HD channels that we pay extra for that i know of. Now ive been reading alot about these "over the air HD" channels for the basic channels that i can receive with the QAM tuner, but i am unsure how i receive them and how i get them on the tv.
So we have the incoming coax cable running into the box and the box to the TV with the high grade HDTV coax cables, and we have our tv remote and the comcast remote, are the HDTV channels that are supposed to be "over the air" listed in the guide through the digital box, or does the TV receive them over the air like a regular old antenna. Id appreciate if you could dumb this down for me so i can get the hang of this.

| If the digital box is connected to your TV, then you should be able to access the local HD Channels, such as ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX. If you get a black/blank screen, then you have to use component cables from your digital box to your digital tv, and not the coax cable.
To get OTA (Over the Air) HD Channels, you will need an antenna. -- CheckSite.us | YourIP.US |

| now i know this is kinda a noob question but id figured id ask anyway, do i have to change to the channel for the HD local on the box, or on the tv, because on the other tv we had the box configured for you merely turned the tv on channel for and changed the channels through the box, and i had never seen any local HD listed in the guide. |

If you want to access the HD Channel through Comcast, and have the box connected, then you would tune to the channel on the box. Usually the HD channels are in the higher end range, like 400-600 range. |

| With the box, you may not get the HD channels without subscribing. Otherwise, all you will get are the regular channel sets. Time to pull out the wallet. As for connecting the Coax directly to the HD set, if the HD channels are encrypted, there is nothing you can do. |

| May I ask, if you already have your mind set on Fios, why come here and try to throw it in everyones faces? Regardless if you have or have not decided, you can believe what VZ tells you, which their marketing is the same as everyone else, and that is to slam the competition and make consumers believe that their product is far more Superior then the next guy, which it is not. |

If you have enough signal split your cable and run one to the box and one to the TV direct. You will be able to get any QAM channels that are not encrypted, some might be HD. Then switch back to component video to get TV through the box. Good Luck! -- There is 10 types of people. Those whom can read Binary and those who cannot. |

| reply to Spawne32 That would get you the most HD content...it does cost a few more$/month than the SD digital box. I find it to be worth it.Also you can get ON demand Content that is in HD. I would say it is the best bang for your buck, to get the enjoyment of your HDTV....Good luck and have fun!! -- There is 10 types of people. Those whom can read Binary and those who cannot. |

| reply to Spawne32 ok guys heres the status update, i went down to comcast in turnersville and exchanged the scientific atlanta explorer 2200 for a explorer 4250HDC, and i got a gigantic package of component cables, i hooked up the HD component cables and am viewing the tv through the component hookup now, and i have all the HD channels including some stuff i think we arent supposed to have lol, like national geogrpahic, and science channel, encore, and max, as well as HBOhd, SHOhd, MaxHD, EncHD etc etc etc, in fact the only channels i dont have are pay per view and playboy (unfortunately) but it did work out well so i thought i would let you guys know all it took was the cable box switch. |
