| Hooking up a used modem
My old wireless gateway crapped out so I called AT&T and they said to get a 2701 HG-B. I had my first SBC modem that doesn't have wireless, and it is working fine(just no wireless). I found a newer version of the 2701 HG-B gateway at a flea market and it powers up fine, shows signal, and wireless activity. When I try to log on it says my serial # doesn't match what's on my account, and then tries to download new software. Thus far this has just gone into a loop and then I panic and shut it down. I don't want to be without internet, and I'm afraid if the used gateway doesn't work I won't be able to use the old SBC rig again. Should I get some different software or what? Thanks in advance. |

I do not see any reason why you should not be able to use the old rig.
The download kinda makes one wonder if it will cripple the modem. Since it appears they are tying the serial to specific accounts. -- Koma If YOu Don't Think It's Possable!! @swbell.net | That wouldn't make sense. I took my gateway over to my cousin's house because we needed more ethernet ports.. and it worked just fine.
It still works at my house too. |

where did you see this ???
can you access »192.168.1.254 and »192.168.1.254/mdc is there a password on that mdc page ??
you can change anything in the 2wire from within those pages you do not need the redirected page to do it for you. -- Koma If YOu Don't Think It's Possable!! | reply to style02 I would not go through that process if you're certain you have not changed your userid or password
The times I've gotten that page or its twin I have just shut down the modem for 5-10 minutes and all is well |

| reply to style02 might have 2 things going on1. when the 2 wire connects to the network it calls home home is the 2wire site ther is whaer your old gateway's s/n is registered this will not casue you not to login though just a way for them to know if it is still under warranty and linked to your ATT account information.
2. you will need to make sure your UID/Password are entered corectly in the 2wire...
The redirected page is alerting you that it does not appear to be so, you can let the wizard walk you throught those steps then all should be fine |

| reply to style02 The page that you've encountered was an ATT trap page.It has something to do with your member id and pw of your DSL. Since you're saying that hooking up a different modem, just like jordanair said, you need to enter the correct UN and PW on your gateway modem. |

| reply to style02 OK, I've got my account name and password in the 2 wire, but I don't have a wireless light on the front of the gateway. It's on when I first turn it on, but after it lights up all the other lights it is not on. My laptop in the basement isn't getting any signal either. How do I get the wireless to work now? |

| reply to style02 The wireless light of the 2wire wont lit unless it detected any wireless device connected to it. So you said that you laptop is not getting signal, can you check if the wireless switch is on? If your laptop is not getting any signal on the basement, try moving it around(might be near the modem) and check if it'll detect wireless networks/signal.. |
