| Three Screen Convergence: Anyone Care?
There is a lot of talk about three screen convergence in the telecom industry. That is - one provider who can deliver a converged/integrated video/entertainment experience to the TV, PC, and mobile device. The idea is, you're watching something on your TV (or maybe DVR), and you have to leave, but you want to keep watching it - so you pause it. Rather than waiting until you get back, you pick up right where you left off, by watching it on your cell phone. Same scenario in reverse. Also, would have the ability to do the same with your PC/laptop.
Does anyone really care about such a service? Also, for the time being, Verizon and AT&T in the U.S. are really the only ones who will have the capability to do this some time in the "near" future. Would you switch to them to get it?

| Not right now. Sometimes too much technology is too much technology. What are they going to charge me for this convenience? Two year commit? Three year?
If it's something supremely useful and makes my life easier, I could see signing up and trying to make use of it. If it's just entertainment, well I gotta turn off the boob-tube sometime! Don't need it following me everywhere! |

| I saw a girl behind me at a stop light texting on her phone. I made sure I got way out in front of her and and made sure she wasn't behind me at the next light...
Three screen... no thanks. Maybe for the commuters that ride and don't drive. Or when I can upgrade my eyeglasses so that the pictures can be projected in front of me while I'm at work and can stream a show during the boring meetings, or catch up on News streamed live on my eyeballs. |

| reply to Tcomp I think TV / PC is a growing area as more people are looking into Home Theater PC's and Media Extenders to store and watch video.
The "cable" companies are moving in this direction as well from the other side. You can watch Verizon FIOS DVR content on any room in the house with a box on it and DirecTV is offering much the same by allowing people to use their computers to watch DVR shows. Tivo as well is trying to get in on this by offering youtube and hulu video's via their set top boxes.
There's a lot of good and useful innovation going on in this area, the least of it is a "triple play type package" for watching movies on your TV, PC and cell phone. At least for now. -- »Left Align the Forum Column |
