 | Will Linksys wrt-54G V3 with DD-WRT handle 50 Mbps? I have Linksys WRT-54G version3 and the latest DD-wrt firmware FULL. The router is set to 200 Mhz and 4095 connections, I was wondering if it will be able to handle 50 Mbps comcast speed or will it get chocked at 33 Mbps like many others?
Thanks! |

|
 | 802.11n is a wireless standard. What does that have to do with the throughput of his router? |

 | My understanding is that DD-WRT on that model will top out near 22-25 Mbps, using Factory settings.
You need to turn off a bunch of settings in order to max out the speed. Turn off the SPI Firewall, turn off all unnecessary services.
Even then, I'm not certain what the max will be. The G model is quite a low slower than the GL model, and the N model is faster.
I highly recommend the Buffalo GHR-125S, which comes at 216 Mhz stock. |

 | reply to RouterSpeed Why not save yourself a LOT of hassles and build a smoothwall from smoothwall.org? Then you can use your DD-WRT router as a wireless access point. Smoothie is just plain awesome. I've got one with 384MB of ram and its a super-champ. It's worth looking into. |

 | reply to scamiran I highly recomend reading the stickys (the one about D3 mentiones routers and D3)
and in the last 2 pages someone posted a link to www.smallnetbuilder.com |

1 edit | reply to RouterSpeed It will not be able to handle 50 megs. Tomato (which is faster than DD-WRT) will hit almost 40mbps on a ASUS WL-520GU which is a 240 mhz router. That is with QOS turned off. With QOS turned on it is slower. The 22-25 mbps quoted above is probably accurate.

 | reply to scamiran Aren't the Buffalo wireless products banned from US sales due to a patent dispute? |
|
 | reply to RouterSpeed Correct, you can't buy Buffalo products in the US right now. So just buy the ASUS WL-520GU which is the same as a Buffalo WHR-G125 which has a 240 mhz CPU (not 216 as incorrectly mentioned above). It still won't hit 50 megs though. |

| In short, you'll need an 802.11n router to hit 50 Mbps, though your WRT54G v3 should be ble to hit 22 Mbps speeds without too much of a problem. If you're looking for a good n router, the WRT310N (what I have) is rather expensive ($85+) but it works great with DD-WRT. |

1 edit | reply to RouterSpeed This is the list that RLH_115 was talking about: »www.smallnetbuilder.com/componen···mid,189/
For playing on the safe side I would NOT choose a router with anything less of 75Mbps WAN LAN performance.
I personally would and have built a pfsense (www.pfsense.org) firewall/router, then use my wrt54G with DD-WRT as an Access Point. |

 | reply to RouterSpeed I have a 1st version WRT54GX
How should this hold up? |
|
1 edit | reply to RouterSpeed I am running DD-WRT on a WRT54GL, and you can overclock the CPU up to 250 mhz in the current version of the DD-WRT firmware. I can hit 30 Mbps with powerboost on my connection. I also use an Apple airport extreme as an 802.11n access point.....
EDIT: Although it may be obvious to most, although 802.11G is quoted at 54 Mbps, I have never seen an 802.11G network top out over 20-25 Mbps in real world connectivity. |

 | reply to Johkal The matching SRX card shows a 108Mbps connection on my one wireless laptop. My 2 G carded machines connect at 54 Mbps |

 | reply to kenshell said by kenshell:The matching SRX card shows a 108Mbps connection on my one wireless laptop. My 2 G carded machines connect at 54 Mbps Right...but using an actual thoroughput test will show you that the data is not transferring at 54 megabits/second.
Even 802.11N does not reach the theoretical 130 Mb/s (2.4 ghz) or the 300 Mb/s (5 ghz) in real world conditions. Even right next to the router! |
