| Half Life 10 years old today Nov 19th Half-Life is a science fiction first-person shooter video game developed by Valve Software and the company's debut product. First released by Sierra Studios on November 19, 1998, the game was also released for the PlayStation 2 on November 14, 2001. Valve, set up by former Microsoft employees, had difficulty finding a publisher, with many believing that the game was "too ambitious". Sierra On-Line eventually signed the game after expressing interest in making a 3D action game. The game had its first major public appearance at the 1997 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Designed for Microsoft Windows, the game uses a heavily modified version of the Quake engine, called GoldSrc.
On its release, critics hailed its overall presentation and numerous scripted sequences, and it won over 51 Game of the Year awards. Its gameplay influenced first-person shooters for years to come, and it has since been regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. As of November 16, 2004, Half-Life has sold eight million copies. As of July 14, 2006, the Half-Life franchise has sold 16 million units. According to GameSpy, Half-Life is the most played online PC game (excluding MMORPGs), ahead of Half-Life 2.

I still remember buying it the first day it hit the shelves and my comment to my wife after playing was "wow what a ride"
This is a pic I did back in the day. Anyone else remember playing it in 1998 ?

If you don't believe me try it! If it's already used in steam before it won't work. I got HL2 because I got that bundle with ATI back when they offered it.. I have blue shift but I never installed it same with CS (I hate it) and opposing force.
the funny part was I used to play TF like crazy but after i got it in the HL2 pack it was just meh now..
I tried TF2 but it would be more enjoyable with a faster system. -- It's NOT Ni-kon It's NE-KON!

I downloaded last night and just ran through the training course again. It's nice not having to wait on loads when you enter different parts of the game.

| I remember getting it shortly after it came out. I also had just gotten my first computer...a Gateway...that is still alive...barely.
I've pretty much been playing Half-Life in all its forms non-stop since then. I'll never forget the original deathmatch though. That picture brings back some memories. The Homer and Rat models specifically.
P.S. That picture reminds me of a lot of the screenshot of the days that used to be on PlanetHalfLife.com

| Re: Half Life 10 years old today Nov 19th It was one of the first ones to have a story - I did not like Wolffenstein and Doom because they had no story to it. Valve took the FPS genre and created and entire story on it. Only thing I hated about HL was the space part as I wanted a FPS based on land. It also had so much better AI than any other at the time - those were the 2 things that hooked me onto the game. | |

Opposing force I liked alot. Blue shift I wasn't as excited to play, but it was still fun.
What was the name of the game that was built on the HL engine that had you packing pistols in a space western? I can't remember the name, though the storyline was pretty enjoyable.
