ZyXEL NBG334W Reviews?

Anyone have any experience with this router or if this is a good price? I know nothing of the Zyxel name, besides the fact that my DSL modem is manufactured by Zyxel.

I replied in your original post (question).
For that price, I am envious (Buy.com not in Canada - Pity)

Thanks for the info. Is the interface fairly simple to use? The reason I ask is the interface on my 660 DSL modem is fairly archaic...I actually prefer telnet to using the web interface on it.

If so, I may pick it up to replace my 4 year old D-Link.

The web gui is very easy to use. I believe it also has a telnet option (being zynos firmware) but not sure as the one I have is at a relatives house.

Web UI is the latest generation from ZyXEL, its better than the P660.

The telnet interface, does not have smt, only ci.

I just went through the firmware guide for version 3.60 and it looks amazingly functional. The logging capabilities are impressive, better than any I've seen in that price range. It even appears to support a RADIUS server.

According to the 3.60 firmware guide, it supports telnet administration.

See »ftp://ftp2.zyxel.com/NBG334W/user_guid···3.60.pdf for the user guide,
»ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/NBG334W/datasheet/···4W_1.pdf
for the datasheet.

I have a G2000+ I've used for a few years and the hardware and firmware are pretty solid. I recommend the brand.

Well...I figured out why these things were so cheap. It arrived DOA, doesn't communicate with anything I've connected to it (doesn't assign IP addresses, doesn't respond even if I assign myself a static IP in the supposed default range, etc). Also doesn't respond to the reset button being pressed. Called ZyXEL and they stated that this model has been giving fits lately and to return it to Buy.com. Great.

That I can verify. I purchased three of them from Anav. All of them are still working flawlessly.

Hey gadgets did you do some throughput tests, I am interested in FTP speeds and other methods? Have you used the guest wifi?

One thing I found strange was the main wifi doesn't support WEP, only the gues wifi has this security option. Unless I'm missing something...

Heh, I find that progressive not strange. Some people may have older gaming devices which only except WEP and thus the utility of guest wifi. Why you would want to have a basically non encryption mode on your private LAN is beyond me!

That's the whole point, for older gaming devices. Nintendo DS for example only has WEP support.

I agree though it is progressive and a step in the right direction, plus you can always run the guest wifi with WEP. The dual-SSID feature is a major plus!

I never did any throughput testing, however I just d/l'd the OOL speed test file to my laptop over a 8 megabit connection, connected wirelessly on the primary not the guest wlan, and the distance was 45 ft. through three walls, one of which used to be an exterior wall. The d/l rate was 1 MB/sec using Firefox. The guest wifi is active and used on all three routers.

I am running the house on a zywall 2WG but dont have the wifi on as the house is fully wired. I want to install the USG100 next. NBG334SH is still in the box, I never ended up getting the NBG334W. On sale now for $19.95 and free shipping at buy.com.

Do they have retail stores??

Actually it does, but doesn't appear as an option until you disable the stupid wireless config pushbutton thing (I forget what it is called). It took me a while to "find" it when I got mine.

No, they're kind of like a electronic flea market. You go there to buy but it is someone else who is selling there. They handle the transaction but the actual shipment is done by the actual seller.

That's right, the WPS setting. The NBG-318S has that same issue, no WEP support with WPS enabled. Thanks for the reminder!
