| Dumping Bell Home Phone Because Of CRTC ruling Okay so I am finally jumping in with both feet and getting rid of Bell home phone. I tried searching for the answers but I am paranoid about it so will ask for advice here.
From my understanding here is the process I should go through:
1) Call Bell and give them 30 days notice. Ask for the cancellation number and the CSR's name/number.
2) Give Teksavvy about 15 days notice that you want to switch over to their system and give them the cancellation number from Bell.
Is this the correct procedure? Thanks.
(BTW screw the CRTC and Bell Canada!) | |

I wasn't under any contract, and the switch went through almost flawlessly. My only issue was that Bell reset my DSL sync to 3Mbps instead of 5 after the switch. | |

The thing is if you are wanting to PORT your TN over from Bell, you must not cancel the service. If you wish to give them 30 days notice, the proper way of doing this is to have us place the connection for 30 days out.

We are able to port most VOIP numbers. If the number has never been in the Bell database, the conversion may take up to 6 months.
The key thing to remember, is that we need to provide to Bell the reseller and CLEC (NON-BELL) provider.
As an example:
Reseller: Vonage - Provides service to the end user.
CLEC: Rogers - Provides the physical service to Vonage.

A few months back, we had a customer call in and inquire to us how to provide Bell 30 days of notice. We placed an inquiry to Bell, and their management team advise us that we need to place an order dated 30 days out to have the customer give their notice.
That being said, I have had many customers tell me that they called Bell and told them: "I am letting you know that I will be switching my phone service to another provider in 30 days." Customer called in 5-10 days before that "30 days period", and they were not charged anything.
If you get charged after placing the order 30 days out, this is something we can go to Bell about, however it hasn't happened yet.

The only downside is that I don't get the pleasure of telling Bell the reason that I am leaving them is because of throttling and outsourcing of jobs outside of Canada. It is an important message they need to get. | |

| Ok this is my story ,
I called bell a few days ago to cancel my connection. They told me they would do it in 30 days I agreed .Same night I called teksavvy to hook up with them, I received my modem today ,hooked it up and a no go .I do not get a signal from my new teksavvy modem585 the broadband signal does not light up .I hooked up my old sympatico modem and it still works obviously, they said they would cancel the connection in 30 days .Do you think that this has anything to do with me not getting a signal on my new modem?

DarkSpider, Teksavvy wouldn't be reselling home phone service if it wasn't profitable. I'm not sure how much of every monthly payment goes to the provider, but I'd much rather give this to Teksavvy than to Bell. | |

DarkSpider, Teksavvy wouldn't be reselling home phone service if it wasn't profitable. I'm not sure how much of every monthly payment goes to the provider, but I'd much rather give this to Teksavvy than to Bell. I could be wrong, but I heard that reselling phone service is definitely a razor-thin margin business. I wouldn't be surprised if 90%+ of the money went to Bell. Maybe someone from TSI can confirm.

| Unfortunately, yes, if you plan to keep your POTS line, you're paying into the Hell(tm) Canada coffers.
However, if you're helping a smaller, independent company with excellent customer service and not having to deal with some county mention in "Team America: World Police" for customer service, then it's a good thing.
I was told by a TSI CSR that all you need to do to change to them is to call TSI and pay your connection fee, first month and then they handle the rest. I'm going to be doing that early next week (I just xfered my net connection without issue yesterday). | |

| I've been watching this thread because I too am considering switching to Teksavvy home phone. For me, it will cost a little more, but I'll have more services. Right now I have basic/no tone with Bell.
I quite like the idea of supporting a Canadian business. I realize by paying bell I'm not doing that..I know they ultimately get the money - but I've done what little I can... | |
