[Vista] High CPU Usage

Click for full size
I have a Toshiba laptop with 3GB RAM and 250GB memory.

I noticed pages seem to be loading a little slow(8-10 seconds for Fox News). I checked Task Manager and here is an image of a before and after finding and shutting off Winspy.exe which I have used forever to check where my pc has been on the net.

You can see the CPU is at 53% with Winspy running and 2% with it off. It shoudn't have been running as once I use it I shut it off and it wasn't showing on my desktop or taskbar. As you can see it was the only one showing up in the CPU column with 50. The only other thing running in the left image is the Flash utility(because off all that stuff on Fox News's website.

Why would a simple program like Winspy that just list your Urls, cookies, index.dat and some other items take up so much of the CPU usage?

I know winspy.exe was my problem and was just wondering why it would stick open like that when it didn't show up anywhere visibily.

foxnews.com was real slow - timing out this morning (B4 noon). So were some other sites, even though pings to the websites were good & speed tests were ok.

So does this mean you were getting slow results loading also?

Here is a ping I just did. Can the ping be good and the load time be slow? Sorry about the lack of knowledge but this old 68 year old brain is just about running on overload since I jumped from 98se to vista.

A quick google of winspy.exe returns many results of winspy being spyware

winspy is a keylogger...i hope you didn't purposly install a keylogger on your machine, as there are much easier ways to see where people have been doing on your computer IE: traffic logs, web reports, etc...

do you really trust the maker of this key logger with your personal data when you log into your bank? I wouldn't

LinkLogger frequents these forums, look him up

he makes a fantastic tool called Link Logger

it is not too hard to set up, and you can use it to log all traffic on your router, you can then very easily see where your computer has been

NEVER trust any type of keylogger, NEVER I don't care who makes it, your just asking for a can of worms my friend.

good luck to you

I have been using WinSPy and Super Winspy for about 8 years and none of the spyware/malware detection I use has ever classified it as either.

Also in the past it has never shown up on my firewall logs trying to access the internet.

It was stated on one site that verifies that isn't doesn't connect to the internet.

It is a keylogger and is spying on who is using my pc and that is as far as it goes from all my experience with it.

I contact my credit union on a daily basis and have had no problem.

Thanks for caring but I am confident in it's use.

By the way I didn't use Spyhunter after reading this review:

Pros
+ none
Cons
- Riddled with false positives
- Disabled little of the spyware it detected.

Spy Hunter Product Review
This bare bones, low quality program has few features and failed to remove any of the common spyware we tested for. In addition, it "detected" a number of spyware programs that were not really installed on our test computers. It is currently the poorest performing product of any we tested, with an overall rating of 21.5%.
