I have had Dialup, Wildblue Sat, VZW EVDO, and now ISDN service. As you can imagine, dialup is painful but usable. My satellite experience was awful. Most of the time the service would not connect and I had to retain dialup service to get to the internet. VZW EVDO was almost as bad as Wildblue. Just an absolute waste of money. I signed up with ATT for the ISDN line and LocalNet for the ISP this past August. It took a little while for ATT to get the line properly configured and for me to understand the Cisco 804 router. I am still working bugs out of the system, but it has been rock solid every time that I need to get on line. I am seeing 70ms ping times, and 120kbs up and down. ATT says that I am around 48,000 feet from the CO. This is the most reliable internet service that I have had so far. If you are considering going this route, read the older posts in this forum. If you are looking for a Cisco 804 check out ebay. I scoured 2 new in the box routers for $5 ea plus shipping. Just wait and check often and they will appear. |
