[northwest] Fios w/ Westel 9100EM - Trying to remotely access ss

I am running a linux server inside my lan. I have the sshd on that linux server. I can access it internally from my other windows computers.

The problem is I cannot access it from outside my LAN.

What I have tried so far:

Logged into the westel 9100em and trying forwarding port 22 to my linux server (192.168.1.110) however when I try to connect is just hangs.

I am looking for some help with this. If you are able to forward ports on the 9100em (ssh or other) and can access those services from outside you lan please let me how you did it.

Re: [northwest] Fios w/ Westel 9100EM - Trying to remotely acces

Have you tried putting just that system in a DMZ zone? Have you tried other ports? Verizon blocks certain ports not sure which all ones. When your connecting are you using the port #? Have you setup port triggering in the router? Alot of the information I'm gathering from setting up my Actiontec but everything should be similar I believe.

I should mention per Verizon's TOS "Servers are not allowed"

I have not tried putting my linux server in the DMZ, I like the idea of being behind a router for security reasons. I should mention that I was doing this without any issues when I had Comcast internet with my WRT54G router. Since switch to FIOS and now using the Westel 9100EM Verizon supplied modem I can no longer get this work. I am pretty sure I am setting up the forwarding on the Westel model ..

I followed this guide:

I did try a few more ports, I tried forwarding 8081 and 1022 (I briefly switched ssh to listen on 1022 to see if VZ was filtering just 22, but no luck connecting to that port).

The idea of the DMZ seems ok but as a last restort.

If anyone has successfully setup forwarding with the westel 9100EM with FiOS, I would love to hear from you.

When you setup the Port Forward Rule, make sure you have "Specify Public IP Address" unchecked. Put in IP or machine name in for Local Host. Leave unchecked "Specify Network IP Address". Make sure your ssh rule is TCPAny -> 22.

This is what I had to do to be able to ssh my box.

Just tried you suggestion with no luck.

I am attaching an image to show to poer forwarding screen on my westel 9100em router. Let me know if anything looks weird.

I wonder if something is blocking the packet from reaching the internal lan from the outside??

Try an IP address below 192.168.1.100 for your destination host.
