| Re: Block users from downloading images? Some people think this protects their images. It does not. It breaks basic browser functionality and annoys the user, but doesn't protect anything.
Some keywords to discourage anyone who would say otherwise: 1) Disable JS 2) Direct URL to image 3) Browser cache 4) many plugins for Fx, etc 5) print screen

| Re: Block users from downloading images? said by seagreen :The most effective method I've seen has been to slice the image into lots of little pieces using an image mapping application. That way if somebody right clicks on the image to save it what they end up with is a tiny fragment of the image. Please see item number 5 in the list in the post above yours. | |

| Don't do it. It breaks the site for people who are using it legitimately and the people that you are trying to stop from stealing the images, will just steal them another way regardless of your measures. -- Broadline Networks Inc. | |

| I did something once, I forget exactly what I did, but I think I overlayed an image with a single transparent pixel with the same dimensions as the original image. When it was right clicked on you could only save the pixel image. Of course this doesn't prevent people from taking screenshots, but it makes the right click and save a little more difficult. | |

| There are so many ways to get around anything you do. Right click, Save webpage complete, Print screen, Image drag, View source, and any number of extensions.
This is an old topic, but you should read through it: »why disable right click? -- I have to come up with a signature now?

If you don't want it stolen, don't put it on the internet.
I agree with JAAulde, the only real think you can do is offer low quality with watermarks.

| Re: Block users from downloading images? said by devicemanage :Yeah, all of these are vilid points. I guess there isn't much you can do about an image, not that much of a big deal. I would imagine the right click disable would be good for stopping the download of a video. Again, viewing is downloading. Video is a little easier to protect given the right player, but if you put it on the web I can capture and re-use it. | |
