Now that Verizon is trying to open the floodgates on getting installs completed, they may be turning the corner from "anything to keep the first-adopters happy" to "whatever, just get it in".
I predict you'll see increasing frequency of less-flexible installs. |

When I said "months" that was meant to include numbers like 36 as well... 
This policy may open another set of floodgates of current customers calling up, very annoyed, and demanding that they (we) get the same deal. Now, if it's just a promo offer for 6 months or a year on the free box(es) that'd be a different story but if this is a forever thing, not such a good PR move for 10^6 other, existing customers who have put up with V's administrative antics during their growing pains.
Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying my FiOS services (particularly now that everything seems reasonably stable). I haven't enjoyed dealing with hobbled CSRs or an air-headed accounting system. I have no plans of calling and biatching about this because I know it'd be like banging my head against a brick wall. But I do also KNOW that there will be thousands that will - can't wait to see what the waiting times will be to get to a phone CSR over the next couple of weeks.

Customer: Your new policy. I read about it on a website - actually it was an article cross-posted from another website stating an anonymous tipster from VZ said you would be giving out STBs if we asked for them.
VZ CSR: Really??
Customer: Well, not really - we're supposed to whine first before you give them to us.
VZ REP: Are you from "Crank Yankers?"
Customer: Certainly not. I'm calling about an official Verizon policy that has been published on the internet. Can't you just do your job or do I have to ask for your superior?

UPDATE: I spoke to one of the maintenance staff at my building, and he told me that each floor is served out of a utility closet (on that floor). Of course this closet is locked so I was unable to get any photos. I will try and get some photos in the next few days however.

UPDATE:
Ok, so I am now less than 48 hours away from my install (Saturday between 1pm and 6pm), and I have a few questions. I am getting the 20/5 internet option (I dont think they offer any faster in MDU's due to the way they deliver it) and I have a few routers at home I can use. My current router is an older Linksys BEFSR41, however I also have some WRT54G's and a Netgear WGR614. As I dont want to use the Verizon provided wireless router (I have so many already!), which of mine is better? I have heard that some consumer grade routers cant handle 20Mbps internet connections, is anyone using any of the previously mentioned routers with success?

I have my own ONT in my condo unit. Regardless, I use a WRT54G router with Cat 5 from the ONT with the 20/20 package. I have no issues at all and get 20/20 both wired and wirelessly. |

Since you are getting TV you will HAVE to use their router at some point on your network in order for the STB's to get guide data and any ON-DEMAND programming. The FAQ's tell you how to bridge/bypass chain etc... depending on your desired setup.

| As indicated earlier in this thread, in a MDU, you might have either of two installation styles.
1) Fiber is run to each unit. You have your own ONT inside your unit. Standard connection to the Actiontec is coax. Ethernet connection is possible.
2) A shared MDU ONT is used. Coax and cat5 is run from the MDU ONT to each unit. In this situation you would have a VDSL modem for your ethernet connection.
In either situation, you still need the Actiontec (or other MOCA bridge) for the STBs. The following FAQ should give you a starting point for different possible dual-router configurations.

It turns out that he is installing an ONT in my apartment. Each floor has a fiber panel in a utility closet, and then he runs fiber from there to the individual apartments. However for some reason they never installed a fiber panel on my floor, so he had to run it through a vent from the floor below. More info to come...
