Re: [OOL] Atrocious peak time speeds continue. Nothing fixed in

Than in my case 800kb out of 16000 is 5% of what they offer. You dont have it as bad as others.

I am tired of OOL already. They didn't even want to admit that these is a problem, just keep blaming on the line everytime I called. Looking to switch back to DSL at least I will get a solid 3MB for half of what I am paying.

I'm not trying to be mean to you man, but are reading the thread? or the Topic of the thread at all?

Seriously, do work for Cablevision? Or are just deliberately being obtuse.

Let me repeat EXACTLY what I said to you very recently in the other BROOKLYN thread:

Why do you keep posting screenshots of your speed all the time, WHEN YOU ARE IN THE BRONX?

One more time, since you post 500 times in every thread your flawless speed.

Why do you keep posting screenshots of your speed all the time, WHEN YOU ARE IN THE BRONX?

Look at what the OP of this thread is about.

Slow speeds in Brooklyn.

The *operative* word there, is Brooklyn.

Let me repeat that,
BROOKYLN.
Do you not see the conflict there?!?

At least LEARN how to post an appropriate f'n capture and not a MAMMOTH screen shot.

We're still blazing along here each and every Brooklyn evening on oversold/oversaturated nodes.

I'm continually amazed at how they could allow this to drag on for months and months. Great way to alienate you customers CV.

"They" are allowing it? "Alienating" their customers?

"We" are allowing it by not cancelling service, probably because even with these problems it is the best value for us.

"Alienating" is a bunch of crap - we have no loyalty, only switching pain. No matter how much they stroke us, as soon as a better deal comes along we're history.

Yeah, ALLOWING IT. ALIENATING THEIR CUSTOMERS. This has been going on for A YEAR. You bet YOUR ASS they've known about the issue for about that long and have CHOSEN NOT to address the issue knowing most of their user base is ignorant and oblivious of the major problem... because they know they can GET AWAY WITH IT without any major repercussions.

What don't you understand?

Really? PROBABLY because it's the best value for us? I wasn't aware that you KNOW WITH CERTITUDE that there are other options for "all of us".

Please.

Speak ONLY for yourself as a scurrilous, disloyal and unappreciative customer. I for one, reward companies that give me quality service and treat me with decency, regard, and respect, by continuing a relationship with them even when they ARE NOT the VERY BEST "deal on the block".

There are always other options; perhaps I incorrectly concluded CV was the best option for you since you send them a big fat check every month. As you point out, it could be because you are a loyal customer.

Anyway, my apologies. Enjoy your speeds.

That's is me EXACTLY!! I have been a very happy CV customer, but someone comes along with a better value for TV and Internet - adios!!

Yeah, you're right. I suppose I could lay my own fiber network and set up some peering agreements to get connectivity. Should take only a couple of days.

Pretty much what I have been getting in West Milford. You in Bald Eagle?

P.S. Up here Optimum is the only show in town, and likely to stay that way for a long while. And don't they know it!

Anyhow, I just read through this thread, and concluded the folks giving Jimboe a hard time are probably some of the same people that stepped over that dying guy at the Walmart. Real classy folks. Maybe if you live long enough you'll grow up to be adults!

Ping Plotter results
For what its worth I have noticed the same slow peak time speeds in Dutchess County for the past few weeks. Before then I was getting high 20's down ever since I got Boost, which was on day 1 of it being available. There's some packet loss to the ftp server as well. Interestingly, speedtests to other sites (e.g. Clifton, NJ and Washington, DC) give much better results (the kind of results I used to get when using CV's server). My theory is something is seriously hosed inside CV's network that is resulting in these horrific speedtest results.

CV's server:

Clifton NJ

Washington, DC

I don't have any speedtest.net links at the moment, but I have noticed the same type of slow peak time speeds for the past 2 weeks here in West Milford, NJ on the Warwick, NY system.

Last night around 7pm I had 1502 kbps down (sucks), 1620 kbps up (ok).

This morning at 6am I got 15202 kbps down (normal speed) and 1740 kbps up (normal speed).

Last week I was only getting 200-500 kbps down which was pretty horrendous, but upload speeds are always 1500 kbps or better which is pretty much as adverstised.
Hey snork See Profile, I'm in Warwick, off 1A heading towards Pine Island. I work in West Milford. Speeds here have been good, and are also ok at my office in W.M. (they also use OOL).

Maybe it's just a temp thing for you.

If he's having the same problem I have (I live in a large condo complex with lots of kiddlies) it's gotten steadily worse over the last year or so. They probably need to split the node, but I doubt if it's an urgent issue with them, seeing as they have no viable competition out here. Right now I'm getting advertised speeds, but at 7-8 pm I was getting worse than dialup.

P.S. Long time no see La Luna, I'm pretty sure we've corresponded in the past. Glad to hear you're not having speed problems anymore. Wish I could say the same.

Hey FSchmertz See Profile, good to see you here again. I used to live in Hewitt. Moved to Warwick at the end of summer.

I've been lucky in both places, no issues so far. Hope you guys get yours resolved soon!

Does this strike anyone as odd? What in the Sam Hill is the route to www.optonline.net doing winding its way through all these far-flung hops? Might this have anything to do with the poor speeds?

Unlikely, they farmed out both hosting and development of optonline.net over 5 years ago. It is hosted by Loudcloud.

Same issue in Matawan, NJ 07747. Last night I could not get better than 150KB speeds, right now it's 1.5meg. OOL is clearly not able to handle the customer base when most use the internet.

Really, in all seriousness, I hope you take it as a lesson.
