As a smoker, I know the dust accumulates fast, especially with forced air heat and AC running most of the year, but I forgot how fast. I will try to do it more than once every time I get a BSOD. | reply to HRM To the OP, sounds like reseating the heatsink improved the contact between it and the cpu. Unless your HS was baked in dust, I doubt that just dust alone would cause such a change in temperatures. Perhaps the HS wasn't seated well to begin with? -- Insanity is living in a state of disillusion. |

| Well, I just decided to reassemble my machine since I replaced the SATA drive and added a card trying to get things right again. While trouble shooting I noticed my CPU temp was 60F (Yikes! no wonder I had a BSOD while encoding)
Anyway, while cleaning and swapping drives I decided to disassemble the CPU fan, and reapply the thermal AS3 (I like to use it up, I seem to remember this one was the best.) After the reassmbly, the temps dropped to 37C (only 27C in Bios) and I wouldn't be surprised if they drop a bit more in the next day or so.
