Score another victory for the Xbox 360 ...

For Christmas I planned to get one of my kids a copy of "Destroy All Humans : Path of the Furon" for the PS3. The release date had slipped at least once. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be released for the PS3 anymore. This is sort of a young teen game, and I was a bit sad that something my son would enjoy wasn't going to be released.

Today, while searching "path of the furon", I noted it also is to be released for the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 release is still on track.

This is the year, Santa brings an Xbox 360 (Elite) to our home. So Path of the Furon is still on, just it won't be the PS3 version.

Stuff like this really hurts Sony in my opinion. I realize this is just a small kids game, it isn't a blockbuster, but still my son will be much happier with the game than without it. He will not care quite as much if it is a PS3 or an Xbox 360 game, provided it works.

As an aside, I didn't see lack of a PS3 version noted very much on most searches.

I'm praying our Xbox 360 doesn't sound like a turbine once we start playing games, but with the new RIP to hard drive feature, it may help cut down on ambient noise from the disc drive.

I can't find anything confirming a PS3 delay.

»ps3.ign.com/articles/928/928927p1.html

But yeah, the PS3 isn't usually the primary development platform for multi-platform games. Unfortunately, developers seem to hit a lot of snags with the PS3, sometimes it leads to the game being delayed on both platforms. (see: GTA4)

Thanks for your input, for verification of the problem, read the comments on your link.

It'll still work out, I'll just get the Xbox 360 version and pray my new Xbox DVD reader doesn't sound like a vacuum cleaner once the game starts.

It's been so long, and the Xbox seems to have so much going for it. In late 2008, I'm still concerned about my new Xbox 360 (on order) having hardware issues ... though if I'm lucky and get a newer unit, my biggest concern will be DVD reader noise.

UPDATE: I found another THQ game which was supposed to be released for the Xbox 360 AND the PS3, back in March. It now only exists for the Xbox 360 (and Windows). It doesn't look good for the PS3 with THQ - »ps3.psu.com/Destroy-All-Humans,-···6-p0.php

You can also check Amazon.com, Path of the Furon is no longer available for pre-order for the PS3, but can be ordered for the Xbox 360. If you also search for Frontlines Fuel of War at Amazon, you'll notice the PS3 version has a similar notice to the PS3 Furon title, however Frontlines Fuel of War has been shipping since early this year for the Xbox 360.

I feel Microsoft is doing an excellent job marketing (hype) the new NXE the same way Sony did with Blue-Ray. Not to mention it lives up to at least 90% of the hype if not more.

I think MS has a slight advantage over Sony since once you have Blue-Ray it will always be the same not really much to change for marketing (even though your movies will alwyas look beautiful). I know their #1 priority is getting that Home service up (if its not already).

Microsoft on the other hand has XBL which can be upgraded changed flipped renamed to always make it look new and feel new even though its an old service... This makes marketing almost as limitless as you can upgrade or add new features...

I will be honest I have had 2 XBOXs die on me but XBL is like crack (I have to take a hit at least a few times a week to make me feel good lol)... If this one dies I will get another one, may sound dumb or stupid, but that's how good it is....

Install the game on the Harddrive and the vacuum cleaner sound is gone. I also feel that since the dvd drive isn't spinning like crazy my 360 produces less heat so maybe it won't RROD again

It is a victory for Xbox 360 as described in my first post. As for the red lights, and possible noise from the DVD drive ... eventually one day we all hope Microsoft will resolve it once and for all.

Though I won't have direct experience with the Xbox 360 until Christmas when we open ours. I'm ordering a bunch of Xbox 360 stuff and hope the console works well once it is plugged in.

What does that have to do with development?

If you can hear your Xbox then you need to turn the volume up! I like my gunshots to sound like actual gunshots!

I don't see how you can peg this on Sony...many other titles make it out on time and look phenomenal on the PS3. This somewhat smacks of MS fanbois wanting to hang something on Sony that it has little control over.

I am sure the fact of THQ's financial woes and lack of success with their "next-gen" titles have nothing to do with the delays they're seeing.

Also, maybe hire some better devs that know how to 1) come up with a decent game and 2) know how to work within the PS3 code/architecture...seems a lot of other publishers have been able to meet their deadlines and get some amazing titles out there. Its a poor carpenter that blames his tools.

Sony has full control over their development platform, what are you talking about?

You make some valid arguments. My situation may well be anecdotal, and is specifically regarding the THQ.

If you read the thread, another example of a game delayed for the PS3 was cited.

The history of THQ at least with respect to the Destroy All Humans series has been mostly on the PS2, with one implementation recently on the Wii.

It just seemed a bit strange that a new release for a popular PS2 series is dead on the PS3, but alive on the Xbox 360. It'd be tough to say THQ didn't like Sony with their history of Playstation games.

They have full control of the platform, not necessarily the dunderheads hired to use it.

Dunderheads like Rockstar and Pandemic Studios? Those are major, competent, developers. When many companies are having difficulties with the PS3 side of cross platform games, isn't it reasonable to blame Sony, not the developer?

I don't know...I am not going to say, having never used it, that its Sony's fault for making a difficult tool...I don't even know what it looks like or anything..I have 0 knowledge as to what the cross platform apps operate.

That being said, I do know that in my job, we have proprietary software that I was hired to learn, right? I am paid to learn that software to the best of my ability and make it sing the way I want it to. There are limitations to my companies ssoftware as well, but I have seen (just as in this case), people able to overcome the obsticles and make it happen. I am sure there is back and forth between every studio and Sony, open DR tickets to get features tweaked and added, but that happens in EVERY business, and while you site that Rockstar and Pandemic are major studios, there are countless more that seem to have been able to just fine.

Again, I think that blaming the tools, while they may be difficult, is a bit of an excuse, but that is just my opinion.... to each their own.

Or so you think. Could it be that developers don't want to admit any problems with PS3 development? When you're making a game for the PS3, you don't want to come out and say "the ps3 is hard to develop for", because that would put off some PS3 owners (for fear of a mediocre quality game, even though that isn't usually the case).

Then you have companies which just refuse to develop for PS3. Take valve, for instance.
»ps2.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/···id=15020

Then you have all the games which perform slightly worse on the PS3 than the 360 when it's the secondary platform. (see: EA's Skate, and others)

Really, it's not just one or two bonehead developers like you make it sound. Hell, Rockstar developed for the PS1 and PS2 exclusively for some time and produced many quality games. I find it hard to believe that they are at fault for having troubles on the PS3 and not the 360.

I didn't say it wasn't difficult, but that isn't necessarily Sony's problem...you completely avoided my point in the last post, and that is that the developers are the ones that aren't doing their job, imo. Fallout3 seemed to go without a hitch...and didn't the same argument occur at launch for the PS1, and for the PS2? It isn't like ppl should be shocked by this.

Look, I'm not gonna argue, man...believe what you will, its looking like anything I were to say wouldn't make a difference anyway...just agree to disagree, as its too close to fanboi crap that I don't wanna be accused of being.
