Since i7 came out, shouldn't e8600 price go down? What you guys think? Thats how market works right? After new product comes out, older ones get cheaper? When should i expect e8600 price to go down? Is it possible that it would drop to ~200$ by the holiday season or not really?
E8400 can be found as cheap as 149$, e8500 around 170$, but e8600 still 265$+. Thanks |

You can nab up the E8400 for more then $100 less and overclock it above E8600 speeds anyways. If you are into hardcore overclocking, I could see getting the E8600. However, the E8400 is allready such a great performer. |

| reply to ZaRRaZa There's still a decent stock of Core2 chips out there and the i7 is just getting ramped up. I'd expect to see the core2 chips drop a bit before the holidays but only because of slow sales. For any more significant drops, you'll probably have to wait until after the holidays.
That's my take on it, at least. |

| reply to ZaRRaZa Thats hard to say,..
The i7 is a quad core aimed at a different (higher-end) market then the E8000 series. One would think, the Q9000 series would see a faster delta but there are indications that there will be new LGA775 processors coming down the pike too. Those new LGA775 chips will probably effect current pricing more. |

| reply to ZaRRaZa I have a friend who keeps waiting for the price of a certain CPU to drop for the last 3 years, he never bought any cos when the target CPU's price dropped, there was another more enticing CPU that the price may drop in the near future. The targets keep changing and the end result is the same, waiting for the target CPU's price to drop. -- I used to be indecisive, now I am not sure. |
