[Satellite] Music Photos and More on DTV HR-22 Box

I have recently made the switch from cable to Direct TV satellite. They installed a couple HR-22 boxes and I am happy with my choice so far, other than the delay between functions/channel changes which is gruesome!!! I use to think my cable box was bad, but the delay in the DTV box gets the cake! I can deal with that, but my real question is in a feature I found in the box, "Music, Photos & More". I found it accidentally (I guess if I read the manual I would have found it on purpose!). I have since read the manual and still haven’t found an answer to my problems. I have love this feature, but I find lots faults with it.
1) The first time I noticed it by accident; I immediately found my computer when I started browsing. At that time my computer had been on for 24 hours plus. That particular computer is a laptop and I take it with me every time I leave the house. It seems that after I come back with it, it isn't immediately discovered. It takes sometime what seems as hours before it is 'rediscovered'. Is there something I can do to manually kick off the discovery, either on the DTV box or the computer?
2) When I start watching pictures, it starts giving me errors "Media not found" and will still usually continue one or two more pictures before crapping out and finally quitting all together. I have a contraption that I purchased thru Direct TV that connects my Ethernet connection via the electrical system in my house. Thinking it was a problem with that, I tried connecting my computer to my HR22 box directly with an Ethernet cable. Again, it started off with 4 or 5 pictures than crapped out and resorted to the broadcast channel that it was on previously. Is there a problem with my box? Or is this a known problem considering this function proudly display “BETA’' every time I access it?
