I usually use DVD Decrypter to burn Iso's and haven't had any problems with compatibility. Burning coasters is another problem though. Use good Media, keep the Burner's Firmware up to date, burn at a slower speed.

CDFreaks is a pretty good site for info about this type of stuff.

While it is an option in the burning software, it also has to be supported by the burner.

Also, from my experience, this is a non-issue. I've never run into a playback issue that was resolved by Bit-setting. The typical solution is different/better media.

I have a PS2 that will not play a DVD+R at all unless it's bit-set to DVD-ROM. The PS2 is really old though. I also have a Philips 5990 that will play anything, bit-set or not. MCC (good stuff), Ritek, CMC Mag, Ritek all play without problems.
