per second billing

Any ideas of voip provider with one or six second billing, I have webacall which seems to have closed down even though the website is still up and running, they were one second increments then I have voip.ms with six second billing. Any other ideas?

»www.grnvoip.com bills in 1/1 increments, but the only posts I've ever been able to find about them were unfavorable.

voip.ms uses 6 seconds billing increment.

I believe Future-Nine bills in 6 second increments for their Bare Essentials plan only.

Our rates are significantly lower than most companies that bill in 1-second increments, however we bill our customers in 1-minute increments. We bill our plan minutes (free minutes) 60/1 (minimum 60 sec, per-second beyond 60 seconds) however minutes beyond the plan are billed per-minute.

Why? because a $0.0005 profit from a call is not enough to stay in business. Maybe that's why webacall went out of a business.

My personal experience with webacall a couple of years ago was that they were very cheap - but quality sucked so I stopped using them.

I see that you are from the UK. Maybe you also should post in the UK forums on this website, as the people may know more of the UK and other European carriers.

Voip.MS does have a London server, though, their rates are very good, and unless you make high numbers of short little calls, 6 second billing sounds great!

Except voip.ms only proxies the RTP streams, so for all you know it goes back to a US gateway to hit the PSTN for UK calls. I suspect that no matter which voip.ms server you pick, for any particular destination the route is identical. If you call a US number, it most likely hits a gateway on the east coast no matter which server you connect up to. If the IP route from their server to the PSTN gateway is better than your direct route to the gateway, then you might have an advantage. Most of the time it just adds latency and another point of problems to the audio path.

In an ideal configuration the soft switch doesn't actually handle anything other than call setup and teardown. The RTP audio should go directly from endpoint to endpoint, and the SIP switch stays the heck out of the way. Of course, NAT throws a wrench in this design which is why many providers proxy RTP traffic through the sip switch.

thanks for all the posts unfortunately vitelity charges a minimum 30 secs, interesting to see how little choice there is.

I'm not aware of any POTS long distance provider that offers 1 second call rounding. this is more a function of billing systems (6 seconds = .1 minutes, which is easy to display and explain) than wanting to rip off customers. then again, VOIP providers may not get the info from their upstream providers to be able to bill in individual seconds, and their deals are most likely in 6 second increments. and let's not forget that carriers have to be profitable to survive.

Even in the POTS world, an initial increment of 18 or 30 seconds is the norm with 6-second billing.

The advantage of 1 second billing over 6 second billing is really pretty minor--after all we're talking about paying in .017 versus .1 minute increments.

While I would prefer to be billed in 6 second increments than 1 minute increments, I recognize that the first priority (based on my calling patterns) should be the per minute rate.

my most common reason is that cellphones which revert to voicemail end up costing a mint even if one hangs up immediately

sounds like you're referring to calling to cell phones outside the US where the caller pays the airtime. if that's the case, you'll be out of luck, as no provider will leave themselves open to losing money on every one of your calls. that's why there are minimums. if your chums have text messaging, can you text them and ask for a call back? here in the states, most of the cell providers have an online page to send text messages for free to their subscribers. perhaps the cell providers overseas also have such a capability.

When I was in charge of another businesses telecom system 8 years ago.... .06 second billing was the norm. Everyone else was just getting hosed.

»www.voicetrading.com/en/voicetrading.html and »siptraffic.com/ bill in 1 second increments. One hase a $500 USD Min and the other a $200 Min payable through wire transfer mainly. (Betamax/Finnera) The grey routes are not worth it.

Some have claimed you have to keep an eye on your own records but it has worked out ok for me.

Both of these are not intended for residential customers. Other Betamax services are, if you want to go Betamax...

Why not? They support sip... So program the sip into your ATA. Voila (spelling?) .... I have been using it this way for a long time. I do run asterisk but I also have it setup on ATA's It is not a mystery or pandora box...The credit doesn't expire and customer service is a little more likely to respond to your requests.

VT doesn't have customer service - they simply ignore you.

Aside from that, $500 deposits are way WAY too much for a residential customer who makes the occasional call overseas. People don't usually purchase 5 years worth of calling credit in advance.

Thats why you can go with one of their crazy clones like voipbuster.com etc... »www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Finarea+SA

for smaller amounts or siptraffic for $200. As long as it doesn't expire I dont care.

VT Has responded to me several times in email.

You can't put them down and at the same type neither confirm or deny that you use them.
