Well I guess it's the green mile for 7.5.

Ok.... Now it's time to invest in 8.0

Problem is 8.0 is trash. I loved AVG for years but they blew it on 8. False positives, broken updates, and poor detection, now that's according to the fixes on it's own site. I went with Avira.

Really? My experience with AVG could never get that far because it was too much of a load on my older desktop. Makes me even more happy that I'm not missing anything. I too went with Avira and I'm really satisfied.

I installed 8.0 on my newer laptop and I'm now having second thoughts about doing so. I think I just just go straight Avira with both

AVG 7.5 CC
I was pissed when I updated to AVG8 on my main desktop. What a bloated POS AVG8 is. I couldn't revert back to AVG 7.5 because the installer file was too old. I too moved on to Avira, but kept AVG 7.5 on my other machine since they keep releasing virus definition updates for it.

I just checked my machine with AVG 7.5 and I don't have the warning about the license expiring. It's been installed on there for a year a year and a half.

That's what I did.
Used AVG 7.5 for many years on all my machines...then, along came v8.0.

As far as I'm concerned, they took a very good app and completely screwed it up.

I now use Avira exclusively, and I've never looked back.

I also had 7.5 on all my machines.. then yes 8.0 the big pile of steaming s**t installed on my desktop. Sadly i gave it a few days thinking it would get better then I had to cut it loose and go with avast on all my machines.

May I suggest Avast. I have used it on all 3 of my machines, my mothers, inlaws and pretty much anyone elses PC I work on. Symantec doesn't like me but I have found that Avast does a great job, they keep it up to date and best of all it is FREE!!! (not for pro version)

Perhaps you could give a Cliff Notes version of how to do that?

OMG! I agree 100% with you. I agree so much that my private thumbs up has become public. When I had AVG 7.5 everything was fine. When free was no longer supported with updates I had no choice but to go with AVG8.0 . Once I rebooted my computer I got warnings that my Windows firewall was not enabled because it was so bloated with the new version. 8.0 was so heavy my firewall was so late in being enabled that the warning came before the initialization

you will love avira - i went from NOD32 2.7 to Avira Premium a few months ago and am very satisfied with it.

isnt too heavy on your system (not quite as light as NOD32 was), very fast scan, and usually #1 or #2 in any of the detection tests (see av-comparatives as an example).

the premium support forum is here if you have any issues:

I'm using Avast right now but I don't particularly care for the user interface. I haven't been able to get the damn thing to do a weekly scan I have to do it manually.

I don't want to use the screen saver scanner and I don't want to use boot time scan either.

I might try something else. Any recommendations on ones that have scheduled timers for scans? Other than AVG.
