| [DISH] Proper Dish for a ViP612 DVR
I currently have a 510 DVR hooked up to a Dish 500. I am getting a ViP612 DVR. What dish do I need to hook it up to in order to get HD channels and suggestions for inexpensive places to buy it from.
Thanks in advance for your help on the subject. |

ilikeme I live in a van down by the river. Premium join:2002-08-27 Houston, TX clubs: 1 edit | I have a ViP712 HD-DVR and my Dish is a 1000.2, which picks up 110,119,and 129. My other house has a Dish 500, which only picks up 110 and 119, and it works with that also, but does not pick up as many HD channels. |

| if you want all the hd channels then you will either need a 1k.2 dish or the 1k.4 dish. it depends on if dish is putting you in the western arc or eastern arc. they are putting new installs around here on the eastern arc service which uses the 1k.4 dish. since you have a 510 receiver which is not a VIP receiver then i am 100% sure you will need the 1k.2 dish and you can get it at www.dishstore.net |

| reply to curro Hi, I'm a long time retired dish dealer from the beginning. Before I upgraded to the 622 HD DVR, was using the super dish and the 510 that picked up the 2 main birds 119 and 110 in addition the Prime Star KA band at 121, my locals were available there.
Dish Network sent an installer, at no charge to swap out and replaced to the dish 1000 for my locals and all the HD programming, free receiver the 622 is very nice, but they now have an improved model (forgot the name) you should consider.
As mentioned prior, the 1000 dish looks at 110, 119, and 219
Sorry, I don't understand why you need to spend any money ? |

And curro will be wanting a 1000.2 or 1000.4.
(Eastern arc HD channels are almost exclusively on 61.5) (Western arc HD channels are almost exclusively on 129) |

Thanks everyone for the followup. I got the 1000.2 installed but the installer did not do a good job on aiming for the 129. It only gets 15% signal :-( He is going to come back and re-adjust it. The installer said that for digital satellite broadcast expect around 45% signal on 129 and around 75% for 110 and 119. When I had the analog receiver the signal was more like in the 90's. |

| reply to curro curro - The lower signals on each satellite is due to having to point at 3 locations now, instead of 2. The only way you're going to get a much better signal would be by having two seperate dishes. (Dish will do installs like that, but it's sometimes a hassle to get it done. Remember - the nicer you are to the customer service reps on the phone, the more you're likely to get.)
vbfd - Yes. Because of the Earth's curvature, a dish in, say, San Fransisco, would have a hard time seeing a satellite positoned over the Atlantic, and vice-versa for a dish in New York and a satellite over the Pacific.
On the other hand, a dish in the center of the US (say Kansas) is going to be able to get at least a somewhat good signal from nearly any US-based satellite, and a satellite over the central US is going to be able to be seen by dishes across the country. |
