| When calling an 800#, caller ID sent is 916-209-4509
When I was making calls today, I noticed a couple systems that always know me by ANI no longer recognized me.
Turns out somewhere ViaTalk has made boo-boo somewhere. On some calls they're sending 19162094509 as the ANI when I'm calling 800#'s.
Also today I noticed that when I've called a couple different numbers I've gotten the message "the toll free number you are calling is not toll-free when called from outside the US."
Anyone else seeing this?

1 edit | This number is from a carrier called O1.
From their site:
"O1 is a facilities-based CLEC providing wholesale SIP origination in California and national termination." »o1.com/index.html
This is not just a ViaTalk issue. It affects many VoIP providers because they all depend on downstream carriers like Level3/Broadwing, XO, and others. And calls may take various interesting routes on their way to Grandma's house.

| reply to davoice Whoever/whatever it is, this just started happening today. I use my VT phone line off and on all day, every day.
VT must have picked up a new termination provider and doesn't have it configured right.
I'm in the tech support queue now waiting for my callback.

| Shelyse, when I call the MCI #, I get "469-541-1010". Is that what you get?
Try calling 1-866-MY-ANI-IS. That's what gave me 916-209-4509.
But it doesn't happen on every call. No discernable pattern. Sometimes on calls back to back, sometimes not. So it appears to be a particular underlying carrier in their mix.

Ever looked at the cars on a freight train? The cars come from all different railroads. They just keep getting swapped back and forth, so a Burlington Northern train could include cars from Norfolk Southern.
It increasingly seems that VoIP traffic is being swapped and plopped this way too.
People can't fully control their kids, and the Voip providers can't fully control their termination providers. Perhaps especially if additional revenue is involved relating to rural carriers and the USF payments. |

FYI: VTLucas says (via PM) they made a change in the system that should help resolve the problem. Not completely resolved for me yet but better than it was.

Worked ok for me on 1 try after 20 seconds with ringing.
2nd try it also worked...after 32 seconds of silent suspense. |
