cash cows

@mc.videotron.ca

You are all of Bell's Cash Cows

My new Fav pick of Bell Canada. Found it at »www.p2pnet.net/story/17690

The throttle that you pay for
TV hikes you probably pay for
The upcoming B/W caps that you will soon pay for.

In the end, you are being milked and you are Bell's cash cow.

There are so many things wrong with your statement and the article.

I will just point out the top 3.

#1 Deregulation of Banks happened under Clinton not Bush, thank you very much
#2 MLPPP, avoids any bell throttle
#3 And how about that 50 GB cap with Videotron, who is the cash cow now?

Teksavvy doesnt mind being a front for bell as long as they get their cut.

You dont see teksavvy protesting the throttling by trying to get rid of Bell. Teksavvy could immediatly stop reselling bell homephone and could find an alternative to their agreement with bell for internet.

But they are happy making their cut. I wouldnt be surprised if we see Teksavvy selling a rebranded Bell Expressvu soon.

While you may not be aware, since you don't seem to even live in this country, there are no viable alternatives to wholeselling Bell service. Cable wholesaling is currently not financially viable (ask eBox) either. This leaves you with building out your own network, and that's also not financially viable for a small company.

There's no other choice for home phone too, for a small company. There's only VoIP, and some people consider that not to be an alternative.

TekSavvy has already announced that they're planning on reselling ExpressVu satellite service, although there are at least independent alternatives in this field (StarChoice). This plan was put on hold, like many others, when the throttling crisis started. TekSavvy may re-evaluate this plan with the current situation, for all we know.

It should be noted that up until recently, TekSavvy's relationship with Bell was quite good. There was no reason to seek alternatives. Then there was a changing of the guard and throttling happened, as well as a significant reduction in the quality of customer service that TekSavvy was getting from Bell.

TekSavvy is indeed currently investigating alternatives, but that's not a fast thing to do. Although I wish Rocky would drop hints!

Yup, its possible. Word is that they will be filing around March 2009 to have the cap's and additional B/W prices in place for the wholesalers.

I really, really, really hope not. Having been in the satellite industry myself, Echostar doesn't play fair. Ever. Trust me. Getting into bed with them is like getting into bed with a dragon. Barret Xplore, while they swore at me on the phone (yup!) is at least a lot less scummy.

For those wondering--Alphastar = Echostar Canada = HTS = DishNet = ExpressVu when it was born. ie: Bankruptcy money, purposely screwed customers, and a US corporation that wanted it's hooks into Canada in Canadian clothing started ExpressVu. Barret Xplore = Shaw Cable = StarChoice when it came about.

So, since ExpressVu is fundamentally a company founded with American money and interests, why do they push the CRTC and the gov't to make it illegal for anyone else to import satellite equipment and push to keep it illegal to pay for US satellite TV? You already figured it out! Echostar hates DirecTV that much. They'd rather cut off their own nose to spite their face.

The satellite industry does NOT have a nice history. In fact, it's probably one of the shadiest industries in Canada. If you think Bell throttling is bad, imagine if Bell paid someone to figure out how to take TSi's internet lines and use them as their own, for free. That's the sort of bad karma the satellite industry invites.

I haven't even got into questioning why StarChoice's decades old encryption technology remains untouched yet ExpressVu purposely uses old Echostar technology. There's a reason behind it, and it isn't just because the old technology is cheap. I'll leave you with the Microsoft axiom: We didn't get here because everyone bought our software. We got here because everyone used our software.

And I haven't gotten into the sins committed by HBO and DTV.

And you all thought satellite hacks were created by people in their basements! No, the major ones are created by the competing services.

I wish to not comment. Its not my place. But this came from a Bell mouth-piece.

Anyone have a larger/high quality version of this? I'd love to make it a poster/sticker for my car/whatever...

I'll leave it stuck to my cube right now...
